Columbine Kristall, Loukykvět

Aquilegia vulgaris

The common columbine is a versatile perennial that will reliably inhabit both rural and modern flowerbeds. In the wild, it grows on the edges of forests and in light groves across all of Europe, which is why it thrives best in the garden in full sun to partial shade and ordinary loamy soil rich in humus. Its main charm lies in its unusually shaped flowers, but it is also valuable for its very early sprouting green leaves, which awaken the garden after winter. You will receive a beautifully grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant to your chosen spot. Although the plant is poisonous, it represents a huge asset for gardeners. Even complete beginners can manage growing it, pests avoid it, and it easily survives severe frosts dropping to minus thirty-four degrees. During May and June, delicate flowers bloom on sturdy, sixty to eighty-centimeter-tall stems, bringing typical airiness and lightness to the planting. The 'Kristall' cultivar is a large-flowered variety that stands out with pure white flowers and prominent spurs. These act as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and other beneficial pollinators. Keep in mind that in a favorable location, columbine very willingly self-seeds, taking care of natural-looking wild stands. It works well in perennial beds and as an undergrowth beneath taller shrubs. If you like bringing a piece of the garden home, columbine certainly won't disappoint you. It is perfectly suited for cutting and will bring a novel structure to spring bouquets. Fresh flowers will bring you joy in a vase for about seven days. If you leave some of the flowers to finish blooming on the flowerbed, they will form interesting seed pods, which are highly popular among florists for creating various natural decorations and can also be dried well. Just watch out for the occasional occurrence of powdery mildew during the drier months, but otherwise, the plant needs almost no care.

Great Burnet, Loukykvět
Perennial of the Season 2026

Sanguisorba officinalis

Great burnet is a native meadow plant that naturally grows in wet meadows, where it forms dense clumps of dark green pinnate leaves. In the middle of summer, tall, richly branched stems grow from them, topped with tiny dark red to burgundy flower heads that gently sway in the breeze. This perennial is absolutely indispensable for the life cycle of the rare scarce large blue butterfly, which it will reliably attract to your garden with its flowers. In perennial beds, it stands out especially in naturalistic compositions, where in combination with ornamental grasses it creates an airy and light effect. The inflorescences are also an excellent material for florists, adding an unusual structure and color accent to bouquets, while staying fresh for seven to ten days in a vase. If you don't harvest them fresh, you can dry them for winter decorations, as they hold their shape for a long time.

Baby's breath Flamingo, Loukykvět

Gypsophila paniculata

Paniculate baby's breath is originally a plant from the sandy steppes and slopes of southern Europe and central Asia, which has been grown in botanical gardens since the 18th century. Since the mid-19th century, it has also become naturalized in private gardens and became a classic cut perennial. In the garden, it applies excellently in modern-style steppe beds with grasses and drought-tolerant perennials, to which it adds airiness and lightness. The 'Flamingo' cultivar boasts a flood of tiny double flowers in a tender pink color, which last on the plant from July to September. The plant requires full sun and very well-drained, ideally sandy soil, because its deep taproots cannot stand winter dampness. Thanks to them, however, it resists drought excellently and is fully frost-resistant. For florists, baby's breath is indispensable, whether for fresh summer bouquets or for drying, as it retains its shape and color even after drying.

Poppy Pandora, Loukykvět

Papaver rhoeas

A Poppy of a distinctive bordeaux color with light grey marbling. We have been growing corn poppies since the first days of Loukykvět and are returning to them again this year. The corn poppy needs more care as a cut flower and doesn't last as long in a vase. But! It is such beauty that it is worth it anyway. Here is our guide for corn poppies. We harvest buds that have just cracked open. It suffices to see a crack on the bud and color inside. The corn poppy has only a few petals, so it takes a moment to open. We freshly trim the ends and scald them in hot water (just boil water and use immediately), or sear the ends with a flame. The heat helps the poppy open paths for water absorption and it won't wilt. We arrange freshly opened pieces or buds in bouquets, given that the poppy will open during the day. If you plan to sow poppies just for pleasure in a flower bed, none of this is necessary of course :)

Thyme Doone Valley, Loukykvět
Fragrant

Thymus citriodorus

Doone Valley creeping thyme is a fragrant ground-cover perennial that will enliven any sunny spot in the garden. The native species grow on dry hillsides, so this variety also thrives best in direct sun and well-drained, rather sandy soil. It is a completely low-maintenance plant that even beginners can easily grow. It is disease-free, avoided by pests, and easily survives frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees. From the potted seedling you receive, it will quickly establish into a dense carpet after planting. This variety catches the eye immediately with its yellow-green variegated foliage and lemon scent. From June to July, the display is enhanced by pink flowers, which act as a reliable magnet for bees and other pollinators. It is perfectly suited for edging borders, dry stone walls, or softening pathway edges. Both flowers and leaves are excellent for drying and culinary use. A major bonus is its changing winter appearance, when low temperatures turn the entire plant into stunning dusty pink tones.

Perennial of the Season 2026

Sanguisorba tenuifolia

Despite its stature, which can reach up to 180 cm, it looks incredibly airy and light in flowerbeds. It is an ideal long-lived perennial for nature-inspired gardens, where it beautifully complements tall ornamental grasses or other late-blooming species. The 'Alba' variety boasts elegantly drooping, pure white cylindrical inflorescences that gently sway in the wind and attract bees. Loosestrife White Swirl, Loukykvět

Lythrum virgatum

The 'White Swirl' wand loosestrife gives a much more elegant and airy impression in the garden than its better-known relative, the purple loosestrife. It is characterized by a slimmer growth habit and smooth, narrow leaves that beautifully turn into dark red tones in the autumn, thereby extending the visual effect of the plant until the end of the season. The 'White Swirl' cultivar is prized for its delicate, pure white flower spikes, which tower up to a height of one meter and bring lightness and light to the plantings. Although loosestrifes generally love water and we find them in moist meadows in nature, this species surprisingly deals well with slightly less moisture. You can therefore plant it without worry not only along the edges of ponds but also in common perennial beds with loamy or clayey soil. From July to September, it becomes a magnet for bees and other pollinators. Furthermore, the sturdy stems are suitable for cutting into summer bouquets.

Phlox Franz Schubert, Loukykvět

Phlox paniculata

Phlox, known as 'plamenka' in Czech, is originally a native perennial from the moister meadows and forest edges of North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the nineteenth century. It is a classic garden perennial that brings a romantic mood and abundant floods of flowers to summer beds. The approximately one meter tall straight stems are adorned with deep green leaves and bear dense inflorescences on top from July to August. At the same time, the whole plant smells very pleasantly, which acts as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies from the wide surroundings. Although phlox is very easy to grow and even complete beginners can manage the care, it pays to pay attention to the correct choice of location. We send customers already mature seedlings in a pot, which you can easily transplant directly into the garden. Here, phlox thrives best in a sunny to semi-shady location with loamy, humous, and well-drained soil. It is ideal to keep a spacing of about fifty centimeters when planting so that each clump has enough space to grow. They like plenty of moisture, and stable humidity is important to them. During severe drought, they can react sensitively and be more susceptible to powdery mildew, so they will welcome more abundant watering in the hot summer. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about pests; they avoid it. As for winter, you can throw your worries behind you, because the plant can handle severe frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees. In ornamental beds, phlox stands out both individually in larger groups and in combination with other summer perennials or shorter ornamental grasses. Furthermore, it is an absolutely ideal plant for cutting into vases. It will lend your home not only beautiful pastel colors but also its unmistakable sweet scent. We recommend harvesting stems for bouquets when approximately half of the flowers in the main inflorescence are already fully open. If you provide them with clean water, they will reward you with extraordinary durability and will easily last ten days in a vase. The Franz Schubert variety attracts with purple to pink flowers that fade towards the edges. The pastel color stands out in the vicinity of darker-colored plants.

Bleeding Heart Alba, Loukykvět

Dicentra spectabilis Alba

The original home of bleeding hearts is Korea and China, where they grow in light deciduous forests. They are classic garden perennials. They will look perfect in nostalgically styled flower beds; the white variant fits well even into naturalistic woodland gardens. They are popular for their heart-shaped flowers hanging on horizontal or arching stems. These weaken and die back some time after flowering; all the plant's energy then concentrates in the roots, and at that moment, we can cut the above-ground part back completely. For the rest of the year, we won't even know the bleeding heart is in the garden. It will remind us of its charm again in the spring. Perfect vase life, at least 7 days. Harvest when the first 3–4 flowers open on the stem. Alba has beautiful pure white flowers; the shoots sprouting in spring are light lime green.

Avens Tempest Scarlet, Loukykvět

Geum chiloense

Avens Tempest Scarlet brings a flood of vibrant colors and spring freshness to the garden. The original species of avens grow in moister but well-drained meadows and light forest edges, which is why they thrive best here in sun or partial shade in humus-rich loamy soil. You will receive an already rooted seedling in a pot from us, which you can easily transplant straight to your chosen spot. Avens are generally very undemanding plants, do not need any support, and effortlessly withstand frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. The Tempest Scarlet cultivar was bred in Scotland and stands out with the deep scarlet color of its semi-double, slightly ruffled flowers, which bloom on long branched stems from May to July. After a summer break, it will often delight you with another blooming in the autumn. With its clumping growth, it will eventually form a nice ground cover, and its flowers attract bees and butterflies. It is an excellent perennial for mixed flowerbeds as well as for cutting. We harvest the stems for bouquets as soon as about a quarter to half of the flowers are open. It will stay beautiful in a vase for about seven days, but it is not suitable for drying. Common pests and diseases avoid it, making it an ideal choice for complete beginners.

Aster White Ladies, Loukykvět

Aster novi-belgii

It originates from the northeastern USA and southern Canada, where it grows in damp areas, scrublands, and on coasts. It crosses very willingly with other aster species, resulting in an inexhaustible number of varieties. Unlike New England asters, they do not close their flowers at night or during unfavorable weather, making them perfect for cutting into vases. We must keep in mind their susceptibility to mildew, which can be prevented by choosing a suitable location. They last 7 to 10 days in a vase. The white variety White Ladies is large-flowered, profusely blooming, and of taller growth.

Cornflower Tall Double Blue Boy, Loukykvět

Centaurea cyanus

The blue cornflower is an absolute classic of our fields and meadows, which probably needs no lengthy introduction. However, the 'Tall Double Blue Boy' variety brings something extra. Compared to its wild relatives that we see along roads, it boasts rich flowers in an unmistakable, deep blue shade, sometimes with a purple tone. You can hardly imagine anything more meadow-like. Thanks to its strong stems growing up to eighty centimeters tall, this annual is perfectly suited for cutting, adding true rustic charm to bouquets. But its use doesn't end in the vase. The flowers keep their fantastic color even after drying! At weddings, we loved using them in flower crowns and corsages, where they have excellent stamina! The petals are edible. They serve perfectly as an original garnish for summer salads, desserts, or festive cakes. Moreover, in the garden, it functions as a reliable magnet for bees and bumblebees, who simply go crazy for its nectar.

Mint Eau de Cologne, Loukykvět
Fragrant

Mentha piperita

Eau de Cologne mint is an absolute specialty for all lovers of interesting scents. Its natural habitat is in a temperate climate, where it grows in moister meadows and on the banks of watercourses. From us, you will get a nicely grown seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant straight into the flowerbed. It is an exceptionally hardy perennial that can easily handle even very severe frosts, requires no support, and does not suffer from common diseases. Only occasionally might the mint leaf beetle appear. The Eau de Cologne cultivar attracts attention with its dark green leaves with a bronze or purple edge and, from July to September, also with its purple-pink flowers, which are a huge magnet for pollinators. Although both the leaves and flowers are edible, you will use this mint more for aromatherapy than in the kitchen. It is suitable for baths, has repellent effects, and perfectly complements cut summer bouquets.

Columbine Nora Barlow, Loukykvět

Aquilegia vulgaris

The 'Nora Barlow' columbine variety is a historical gem, discovered in Cambridge in the 1980s by the granddaughter of the famous Charles Darwin. This unique plant is characterized by non-traditional flowers, whose coloration smoothly transitions from dusty pink through white to delicate greenish tones. Naturally, columbines occur in light forests, so they are best suited to a partially shaded location with well-draining loamy soil full of humus. They are versatile flowers suitable for rustic cottage gardens as well as natural compositions. Their charm lies not only in the flowers attracting bees but also in the early-sprouting green leaves. Beginners can handle their cultivation, the plants survive even extreme frosts, and they willingly self-seed in the garden. Just remember that columbine is poisonous, and it is good to occasionally check it for aphids, slugs, or powdery mildew. The stems blooming during May and June will add lightness to the flowerbeds. They are ideal for cutting, bring joy in a vase for about seven days, and serve beautifully for drying as well.

Phlox Sweet Summer Fragrance, Loukykvět

Phlox paniculata

Phlox is originally a perennial native to North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the 19th century. It is a classic perennial for cutting into bouquets, where, in addition to colorful flowers, it also delights with a gentle fragrance. We harvest as soon as roughly half the flowers in the inflorescence have bloomed; then they last up to 10 days in a vase. Despite efforts to breed the most resistant cultivars, it remains true that Phlox reacts extremely sensitively to climate and soil conditions, so we carefully pay attention to the correct choice of site. The Sweet Summer series includes cultivars bred for greater resistance to fungal diseases. The Sweet Summer Fragrance cultivar has sweet pink flowers, lighter to white in the center with a purple eye.

Siberian Bugloss, Loukykvět

Brunnera sibirica

Siberian bugloss is a hardy perennial that is unfazed even by the shady corners of the garden where other plants fail to thrive. It earned its name thanks to its tiny blue flowers, which are very similar to classic forget-me-nots and bloom in April and May. Unlike its more famous relative, the largeleaf bugloss, this species spreads a bit more vigorously and forms dense stands. Thanks to its underground rhizomes, it works as a great groundcover plant that reliably suppresses weeds under trees or shrubs. Once the plant finishes blooming, all its energy moves into the large, deep green heart-shaped leaves, which quickly grow to their final size. It is an ideal choice for beginners because it handles heavier clay soils excellently and tolerates short-term drought. Furthermore, the flowers are suitable for cutting into spring tied bouquets, where they look very tender and add lightness to the arrangement.

Strawflower Salmon, Loukykvět

Helichrysum bracteatum

Divine color cocktail of sunset colors. From light champagne and apricot to salmon and old wine. Strawflower is a classic from grandma's garden but also an evergreen of dried flowers. We love using them when binding wedding flowers because they don't wilt. They are suitable for corsages, wreaths, and boutonnieres.
