Columbine Rose Barlow, Loukykvět

Aquilegia vulgaris

The Barlow series is our favorite columbine because the flowers are double-flowered! We grow columbines on our farm as annuals, so we sow new ones every year. This saves space and we achieve longer stems. We grow part of the columbines in a polytunnel so we catch the harvest for Mother's Day, when flowers are scarce. Rose Barlow is a beautiful color combination where the flower centers are sweet pink and the outsides and stems are slightly purplish.

Geum Smokey Peach, Loukykvět
New

Geum

Avens Smokey Peach is a magical spring perennial that brings warm pastel tones to the garden starting in May. In nature, these plants grow on the edges of light forests and moister meadows, which is why a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained and loamy soil suits them. As the name suggests, Smokey Peach puts on a beautiful show. Its ruffled flowers open yellow and gradually darken to soft peach and pink. You will receive a well-rooted seedling in a pot from us, which just needs to be transplanted. The leaves grow in dense clumps, forming a nice ground cover and offering an interesting winter effect. Any beginner can handle its cultivation. The perennial does not need support, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and easily survives even severe frosts. Moreover, the cup-shaped little flowers act as a magnet for pollinators. With its height of around fifty centimeters, it is suitable for the edges of flower beds. Avens are popular for fresh bouquets. Harvest them partially open; they will last a week in water. The flowers are not suitable for drying.

Scabiosa Fama Deep Blue, Loukykvět

Scabiosa caucasica

A beautiful perennial that we love on the farm not only for its large petals but also for its round seed heads suitable for drying. Although smaller than the starflower Scabiosa, it is ideal for arrangements. Bees and bumblebees also can't get enough of this perennial! Just be careful, it doesn't like high humidity as it risks rotting, so it is better suited for a semi-dry, sunny location.

Beautiful fragrance, long stems, and delicate flowers. The Carnation is our spring favorite. It has proven best for us to plant in the polytunnel already in autumn, then in spring you harvest a flood of meter-long stems. From spring sowings, stems are radically shorter. Dynasty "White Blush" features tiny white flowers with occasional delicate pink veining. From one plant you will harvest at least 10 full-sized stems.

Limonium sinuatum

Divine color cocktail of sunset colors! Statice is a classic from grandma's garden, but also an evergreen of dried flowers. We grow statice by the hundreds! It is incredibly useful in bouquets as filler material and even undried lasts a long time in a vase. Once all the florets on the stem bloom, statice no longer wilts and is suitable for wreaths, corsages, boutonnieres. One plant produces at least 15 stems. For drying, we harvest statice at the stage when the stem under the flower is firm and the entire inflorescence has bloomed. Just hang them upside down, in a dry and ventilated place, out of sunlight.

Talinum Jewels of Opar, Loukykvět

Talinum paniculatum

Talinum latnaté, známé pod názvem Jewels of Opar, vnáší do zahrad i kytic lehkost a hravost. Semena talina zvládnou vypěstovat i začátečníci. Vyséváme je od dubna do června na slunné či polostinné stanoviště s propustnou půdou. Na povrchu je nezasypáváme, ke klíčení potřebují světlo. Netrpí na škůdce a na konci léta se ochotně sama přesévají.

Irish Eyes has elongated petals, larger flowers, and a light center.

Geum Mai Tai, Loukykvět

Geum rivale

Avens Mai Tai is a charming spring perennial that brings a romantic touch to the garden with its adorable cup-shaped flowers. The original species often grows near streams and in moister meadows, so it will easily settle in our gardens in sun or partial shade, where well-drained, loamy, and slightly humous soil will suit it best. You will receive a rooted seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant into the flowerbed. Avens forms nice basal clumps of green leaves, which over time function as an excellent ground cover. Its growth is reliable and its care is downright undemanding, because the plant is not bothered by pests or diseases and withstands frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. It stands out best when you plant it in smaller groups about thirty centimeters apart. From May to July, richly branched stems bearing semi-double flowers with gently ruffled petals appear above the foliage. The Mai Tai cultivar, which was bred in the USA in 2005, is characterized by its amazing color variability. It blooms in peach tones with a pink tint and gradually transitions into more muted pastel, salmon, and apricot shades. Blooming avens is a huge attraction for insects, especially for butterflies. We cut the stems for a vase when roughly a quarter to half of the flowers on the stem are open. They will stay beautiful in water for approximately seven days and add lightness and movement to an arrangement. However, its flowers are not suitable for drying. Although it is more of a short-lived perennial, it will bring you a lot of joy in the flowerbed with its rich flowers and undemanding nature.

Betony Superba, Loukykvět

Betonica (Stachys) grandiflora

Betony Superba, also known as Stachys, is a perennial you will fall in love with for its low maintenance and striking inflorescences. It originally comes from the mountain meadows of the Caucasus, where it grows on sunny slopes, and thanks to this, it is completely frost-resistant and hardy here. It forms dense carpets of deep green, wrinkled leaves, above which sturdy stems with large, purplish-pink flowers stand tall in June and July. These are literally a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, providing them with a rich source of nectar. In the garden, it is perfectly suited for mixed perennial beds or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs, where it reliably suppresses weeds in both sun and partial shade. If you like creating bouquets, betony will also please you as a cut flower; it will last to make a show in a vase for quite a long time. It is a long-lived plant that will last in one place for many years without the need for frequent transplanting or complex care.

Echinops ritro

Although it's named blue, it's a shade of steel blue. Globe thistle is a perennial, but growing it is no hard work! It blooms in May to June, but we recommend harvesting even before it blooms; that's when it's most beautiful! For drying, we harvest when the thistles are colored but before they bloom. Otherwise, they tend to fall apart after drying. Just hang them upside down in a dry and ventilated place, away from sunlight.

Penstemon digitalis

Penstemon digitalis Mystica is a relatively robust and long-lived perennial with attractive bronze-purple foliage and white-violet flowers. The decorative spent flower heads continue to adorn flower beds well into winter. However, the plant can also be cut back after flowering to encourage new growth. The main difference between Mystica and Husker Red lies in the foliage. Mystica leaves should be more durable and visually attractive even after the first frosts. We recommend cutting back the Penstemon after flowering so it sprouts again. Lasts 5 to 7 days in a vase.
