Hot Summer in Pink
A drought-tolerant and fragrant herbal collection for the sunniest spots in your garden or on your terrace. Tested in the flower beds of the Loukykvět nursery. We used this mixture in raised beds; it can also work well in a rock garden, gravel bed, or in containers on a terrace. Choose sufficiently large pots, don't forget a drainage layer, and prepare a well-permeable substrate. It should not contain too many nutrients, as the plants chosen for this collection grow naturally in locations with rather poor soil, and excessive fertilization would shorten their lifespan. Good soil permeability and its ability to dry out quickly are most important. This is the only way to prevent winter waterlogging, which is usually fatal for most drought-tolerant plants. The keywords for this collection are delicacy, lightness, and fragrance. It contains plants with smaller flowers. From the fragrant cushions of calamint, hyssop, and sage emerge the flowing silhouettes of whirling butterflies (Gaura) and feather grass. Firm yet delicate structure is provided by the silvery stems and serrated leaves of Russian sage (Perovskia). And the flowers? Basic pink, but also white and blue—you can choose them yourself. All three colors are represented in the range of sages, hyssops, and nigellas. And even though nigella is not a perennial, it would be a shame not to use it in this combination. It is a hardy annual with very rapid development, so we can sow it into the bed repeatedly at intervals of several weeks and enjoy its flowers. We also have a favorite among bulbs for sunny, dry spots: small-flowered alliums with leaves similar to chives. After all, other combinations suggest themselves. Supplement this bed with fragrant herbs—sage, oregano, or thymes and lavender. And if you think our selection deserves more space, add other plants from the 'Hot Summer' line.
When planning, count on an average of six to seven perennials per m², depending on the soil quality in your garden and your intentions. In nutritious and sufficiently moist soil, perennials will grow faster and the distances between them can be larger to start with; in poorer conditions, it will be better to plant them more densely. The time you can dedicate to bed maintenance will also be a deciding factor.
With our collection, you can work creatively and adapt it to your needs and your garden. In the basket, you can easily adjust plant counts and choose appropriate species and cultivar substitutes. For example, if you are already growing some of the perennials in this collection and only need to supplement your bed, you can keep only the selected perennials in your basket. When shopping in autumn, you can take advantage of available bulbs and order the complete collection, including spring bulbs and alliums, which will ensure your bed has plenty of flowers in both spring and summer.

Traditionally, it is planted as a companion to roses due to the matching flowering time. However, it will look equally good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It is an excellent food source for bees. It lasts 7 days in a vase. Schneehügel blooms white.

Meadow sage occurs here primarily in warmer regions, especially in southern Moravia and northern and central Bohemia. It grows on sunny meadows and hillsides and along paths. Fragrant leaves form a basal rosette, from which several less leafy branched stems grow. The inflorescences are composed of striking bilabiate flowers, which are a great attraction for bees and bumblebees. Rose Rhapsody has light pink flowers.

Bluebeard Kew Blue is an exceptionally attractive shrub that will bring the atmosphere of the sun-drenched Mediterranean to your garden. It naturally grows in dry and warm habitats, which is why it will appreciate full sun and well-drained, even loamy or sandy soil here too. As soon as you transplant the seedling into the flowerbed, it quickly establishes itself and requires almost no care. It easily handles summer droughts and winters without problems in frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees. It does not suffer from diseases or pests, so even beginners can easily handle growing it. It forms compact small shrubs growing to a height of around one meter. They are adorned with gray-green leaves that emit a pleasant spicy scent when rubbed. During August and September, rich panicles of tiny flowers in a deep blue color appear, which is very typical for the Kew Blue cultivar. The flowers are a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, providing them with valuable food. It will fit perfectly into drought-tolerant flowerbeds. The Albus hyssop is an aromatic subshrub that will bring a Mediterranean atmosphere and a flood of pure white flowers to your garden. Its original home is the sunny and rocky slopes of Southern Europe, so it will appreciate full sun and well-drained, even poorer sandy soil here as well. Baby's breath 'Bristol Fairy' is an absolute classic that you might know from many bouquets under the folk name bridal veil. Originally a plant from the sandy steppes and slopes of southern Europe and central Asia, it is accustomed to full sun and well-drained, even poorer soil. Oregano Compactum represents an ideal choice for the sunny and drier corners of your garden. The original species come from rocky hillsides, so it is accustomed to modest conditions and will appreciate poorer, well-draining soil in full sun. It does not require complex care, avoids pests, and resists severe frosts. We will deliver a well-rooted seedling in a pot ready for planting in the flowerbed. During the summer, it forms a flood of tiny pink flowers that attract plenty of pollinators. It works excellently in gravel plantings alongside drought-tolerant perennials, where it creates dense green carpets, especially if you plant the seedlings about twenty-five centimeters apart. Both the green leaves and flowers are edible and form the aromatic base of many dishes.
