Large double flowers are missing at the turn of spring and summer. The last Ranunculus finish blooming and there is plenty of time before the first Dahlias arrive. On our farm, it was always a struggle to find beautiful, full, and large flowers for bouquets at that time. But we succeeded! We filled the void with China asters and peony-flowered Poppies. These Poppies reliably replace peonies, Ranunculus, and Dahlias. Just keep in mind that they don't last long and need a little care to last in a bouquet. We harvest when the bud cracks, sear the ends of the stems in water for a few seconds, and let them finish opening in the vase. Peony Poppy Salmon is a warm pink color.

Chinese Forget-me-not Firmament
Although correctly it is the Chinese hound's tongue, on the farm we don't call it anything other than forget-me-not! Unlike the classic water forget-me-not that we all know, this species has massive and long stems perfectly suited for binding. The color is a very fresh and distinct blue. Each plant produces 6-8 stems, and if you let some fade and ripen, seeds are easily collected.

Stock Katz White
Stock is a wonderful cut flower! It likes low temperatures, yet we grow three batches a year – two in spring and one in autumn. You harvest just one bloom per plant, but it is a really large, double one. Stock smells beautiful, almost intoxicating, and lasts a long time in a vase. The flowers are edible.
The Katz series is not as susceptible to temperature changes, and is generally easier to grow for beginning gardeners. However, this comes at the cost of thinner stems and a lower percentage of double flowers. Katz Apricot is a shade of pure white.
All stocks produce some plants with double flowers and some single. The ratio is different for each series. Katz has 55-60% double-flowered plants. We therefore recommend growing a bit more. At our farm, however, we use the single ones too; they look super unique.

This piece has been with us for a long time. Light pink combined with creamy white. Each flower has a different distribution and combination of these two colors. The Strawflower is a classic from grandma's garden but also an evergreen of dried flowers. We love using them when arranging for weddings because they don't wilt. They are suitable for corsages, wreaths, and boutonnieres.
For drying, we harvest flowers that are not yet fully open, when the yellow center cannot be seen yet. At the same time, we check the stem below the flower; it should already be firm, not "rubbery". Just hang them upside down in a dry and ventilated place, out of direct sunlight.

Sea Holly
An evergreen favorite at the flower market! Sea Holly is a perennial; it lasts for several years in the flowerbed and spreads beautifully. The "flowers" and leaves are slightly prickly; it does look like a miniature thistle after all. The stems and tops are silvery blue. And mature, bloomed Sea Holly doesn't wilt, making it great for drying, wreaths, and similar uses.
For drying, harvest when the thistles are colored blue and the stem below the thistle is firm. Just hang them upside down in a dry, ventilated place, out of sunlight.

PĚSTOVÁNÍ
Orlíček doporučujeme pěstovat jako dvouletku, tzn. první rok v červnu/červenci/srpnu vysejete a na podzim zasadíte, další rok na jaře vám orlíček pokvete a sklidíte krásně dlouhé stonky. Jinak je orlíček samozřejmě trvalka, na stejném stanovišti vám bude kvést každý rok a zároveň se bude vysemeňovat. Jen je potřeba počítat s tím, že rostlina další roky nebude mít takovou energii jako rok první.
Pokud se tedy chystáte orlíček pěstovat primárně k řezu, pěstujte ho jako dvouletku a každý rok vysívejte znovu.
VÝSEV
Semena orlíčku mají obecně nižší klíčivost, proto doporučujeme do jedné buňky sadbovače vysít 1 - 2 semena. Sejte na povrch substrátu a zasypejte vrstvou vermikulitu. Nepropadejte panice, orlíčku trvá dlouho než vyklíčí! Může to být klidně 14 - 21 dní, než uvidíte první lístky.
Jakmile zaplní buňku sadbovače (4 - 8 týdnů), přesadíme si orlíček do květináčků (např. 7×7×8 cm, nebo 9×9×10 cm), necháme zakořenit a až poté přesadíme n a finální stanoviště.
STANOVIŠTĚ
Přesaďte ven ke konci léta, tak bude mít rostlina čas vytvořit si kořenový systém, než přijdou první mrazy. Přikrývat na zimu není nutné, orlíček je plně mrazuvzdorný.
Orlíček potřebuje nižší teploty ke kvetení, proto ho doporučujeme sázet do polostínu. Pokud ale zahradničíte v místech s chladnými jarními teplotami a udržíte rostliny zalévané, snesou i plné sluníčko.

The blue cornflower is an absolute classic of our fields and meadows, which probably needs no lengthy introduction. However, the 'Tall Double Blue Boy' variety brings something extra. Compared to its wild relatives that we see along roads, it boasts rich flowers in an unmistakable, deep blue shade, sometimes with a purple tone. You can hardly imagine anything more meadow-like. Thanks to its strong stems growing up to eighty centimeters tall, this annual is perfectly suited for cutting, adding true rustic charm to bouquets. But its use doesn't end in the vase.
