Nasturtium Troika Velvet

A beautiful shade of vanilla yellow with burgundy centers. It looks delicate and unique. It isn't a classic cut flower, we know. But it fits perfectly in flower beds, has beautiful colors, and is edible, which is why we forgive it. Nasturtium flowers have stems 15-20 cm long. They are therefore suitable for arranging in vessels, tying small posies, or as decorations on cakes. Our Nasturtiums are not climbing, but bush-type.

Pure splendor! We don't have nicer photos for this year because every year we cut the ornamental carrot down to the last stem and there is simply no time left for photos. Thin, strong stems and umbel inflorescences resembling dill at their ends. There are thousands of tiny flowers on each stem creating a veil or lace effect. It is a mixture of colors, where some flowers are pure white, but the majority are chocolate to burgundy with a touch of white.

Cosmos belongs among the most used items on our farm. And Rubenza is one of the most beautiful. Warm burgundy color, the petals have a brush-stroke texture on the underside. It is a color that is currently trendy in wedding floristry, so we never have any left in the flower bed. One plant produces at least 12 stems.

A classic among Nigellas, a shade of deep sky blue. Nigella is a spring beauty, but its pods are also great for harvesting, so it lasts in the flowerbed until summer.

For drying, we harvest mature poppy heads, roughly from mid-July. Just hang them upside down in a dry and ventilated place, away from sunlight.

Cherrelle is a double-flowered variety; the flower is ruffled and contains more petals. The color is cherry. It looks delicate and unique. We know it’s not a classic cut flower. An evergreen favorite at the flower market! Sea Holly is a perennial; it lasts for several years in the flowerbed and spreads beautifully. The "flowers" and leaves are slightly prickly; it does look like a miniature thistle after all. The stems and tops are silvery blue. And mature, bloomed Sea Holly doesn't wilt, making it great for drying, wreaths, and similar uses. For drying, harvest when the thistles are colored blue and the stem below the thistle is firm. Just hang them upside down in a dry, ventilated place, out of sunlight.

A smaller zinnia is very practical! And the Oklahoma series has flowers 4-5 cm large and fits perfectly even into smaller floristry tasks such as wreaths. Shades of darker and lighter salmon. One plant produces at least 10 flowers.

Specially bred varieties suitable for cutting: these are the sunflowers of the PROCUT series. They are reliable, single-stemmed varieties. They are pollen-free, which every florist will appreciate. White Lite is a pale yellow variety with a green-yellow center.

A Poppy with black centers, similar to anemones. In terms of color, it is a mix of marbled shades ranging from white through red and pink to burgundy. We have been growing poppies since the early days of Loukykvět, and this year we are returning to them. The Poppy needs more care as a cut flower and does not last as long in a vase. But! It is such a beauty that it is worth it anyway. Here is our guide for poppies. We harvest buds that have just cracked open. It is enough if you see a crack on the bud and the color inside. The Poppy has only a few petals, so it takes just a moment to open. Freshly trim the ends and scald them in hot water (just boil water and use immediately), or sear the ends with a flame. The heat helps the Poppy open pathways for water absorption so it won't wilt. We arrange freshly opened pieces or buds into bouquets, expecting the Poppy to open during the day. If you plan to sow poppies just for pleasure in the flower bed, none of this is necessary, of course :). For drying, we harvest matured poppy heads, roughly from mid-July. Just hang them upside down in a dry and ventilated place, out of direct sunlight.

A flood of flowers resembling cotton candy. Snow Puff is creamy white. One plant produces at least 12 stems.

These beauties love heat, which is why we associate them mainly with late summer and early autumn. Scalding helps with vase life: dip freshly cut stems into 90°C water for 3 minutes and then immediately into cold water. One plant produces at least 5 stems. Cherry Brandy is a beautiful shade of dark wine.

The last ranunculus fade and there is a lot of time left before the first Dahlias bloom. At our farm, it was always a struggle to find beautiful full and large flowers for bouquets at that time. But we succeeded! We filled the vacuum with China asters and peony-type poppies. These poppies reliably replace the peony, ranunculus, and Dahlia. You just have to keep in mind that they don't last long in bloom and need a little care to hold in a bouquet. We harvest a cracked bud, scald the ends of the stems for a few seconds in water, and let them finish blooming in a vase.

Large double flowers are missing at the turn of spring and summer. The last Ranunculus finish blooming and there is plenty of time before the first Dahlias arrive. On our farm, it was always a struggle to find beautiful, full, and large flowers for bouquets at that time. But we succeeded! We filled the void with China asters and peony-flowered Poppies. These Poppies reliably replace peonies, Ranunculus, and Dahlias. Just keep in mind that they don't last long and need a little care to last in a bouquet. We harvest when the bud cracks, sear the ends of the stems in water for a few seconds, and let them finish opening in the vase. Peony Poppy Salmon is a warm pink color.
