Nasturtium Troika Cream

Sow the seeds 20-30 cm apart. I recommend placing 2 to 4 seeds into each hole to ensure 100% germination. The sowing must always be covered with a thin layer of soil, as Nasturtium germinates better in the dark. The ideal temperature for germination is between 16-22 degrees Celsius, and you will see the first sprouts in 7 to 14 days.

For this variety, you can choose between two methods. If you want to start the plants indoors or in a greenhouse, begin in March or April (the starting period takes about 3 to 4 weeks). For direct sowing outdoors in a flower bed, April, May, and June are ideal, as these are times when there is no longer a risk of hard frost.

Nasturtium 'Troika Cream' loves lean but well-drained soil. If you were to plant it in soil that is too heavily fertilized and rich in compost, it would produce a massive amount of green leaves at the expense of beautiful flowers. Regarding light, it will thrive best in full sun or partial shade.

Yes, it is an excellent choice for growing in spacious containers and deep window boxes. Thanks to its bushy growth habit, it creates a lush and very compact display that will brighten and fragrance any balcony. Just remember to ensure good drainage at the bottom of the pot so the plant's roots do not sit in water unnecessarily.

Certainly. Nasturtium 'Troika Cream' is known as one of the most rewarding plants for beginner gardeners, and growing it does not require any complex procedures. It does not need special fertilizer, it germinates very well, and it grows beautifully and vigorously. The only things you need to watch are regular watering and a sunny location.

This is a very common problem when growing nasturtiums. The main reason is usually soil that is too rich in nitrogen or unnecessary fertilizing during the season. In such a luxurious environment, the plant invests its energy only into producing green foliage. For prolific flowering, always choose poorer, nutrient-sparse soil.

Definitely yes! Although it is not typically considered a cut flower here, Nasturtium 'Troika Cream' is perfectly suited for this purpose. Its unique vanilla-yellow and burgundy flowers grow on stems about 15 to 20 cm long, which is an ideal length for creating small, charming bouquets or for summer table arrangements.

Unfortunately, we do not recommend this. Nasturtium flowers are very fragile and contain a large amount of water, which is why they are not at all suitable for traditional drying. If you want to preserve their unique spicy taste and summer aroma, a much better solution is to pickle the flowers, immature seeds, or fresh leaves in high-quality vinegar or herb oil, or to use them to make a delicious homemade pesto.

You can be completely worry-free; nasturtium is not poisonous and is entirely safe for your pets. What's more, it is even fully edible! Both the flowers and young leaves have a pleasant, mildly spicy, and peppery watercress flavor. Its pastel yellow and chocolate-colored flowers look absolutely fantastic as a luxurious garnish on cakes or in summer vegetable salads.

The 'Troika Cream' variety will delight you with a very long blooming period. The beautiful, approximately 5 cm large flowers usually begin to appear as early as June and will seamlessly decorate your garden throughout the summer until deep into autumn (it blooms in June, July, August, September, and October). It will continue to bring you joy basically until the first hard frosts.

Definitely yes! Besides working great as an aphid trap in organic gardens, its beautifully aromatic flowers magically attract many beneficial pollinators. Bees, bumblebees, and various species of butterflies will love your garden for this nectar treat, which in turn will help improve the yields of your other plants.

Nasturtium is very often sought out by aphids and flea beetles. Experienced gardeners even intentionally plant it near valuable vegetables as a so-called 'trap crop' that reliably draws these pests to itself, thereby protecting the important crops nearby. Also, keep an eye out for slugs and snails, which find the young, fragrant leaves incredibly tasty.
