Its flowers are fragrant and full, about 15 cm large. The flower has no stamens. Show full description

Peony Coral Charm, Loukykvět

Paeonia

The 'Coral Charm' peony captivates with its dark coral buds, which gradually open into large, semi-double flowers. During blooming, it offers a breathtaking color transformation, with tones shifting from vibrant pink through salmon and peach to a soft cream. These long-lived perennials require a certain amount of patience from the gardener. It takes them several years to grow to their full beauty, and blooming in the very first year after planting is more the exception than the rule. For successful growing, not only time is key, but also the right conditions and plenty of space in the flower bed – we therefore recommend studying our growing guide. Most cultivars of herbaceous peonies are derived from the Chinese and common peonies, which were a traditional part of monastery gardens. Today, we love to combine them with other perennials, ornamental grasses, and bulbs.

Tulip San Luiz, Loukykvět

Tulipa

The dark purple 'San Luiz' tulip belongs to those varieties that bring well-deserved attention to the spring garden. Its flowers are decorated with finely fringed edges, which give it a very elegant and slightly unconventional look. It blooms in April and May, when its striking color forms a wonderful contrast to the fresh green leaves and light tones of other spring flowers. In addition, the flowers attract bees and other useful insects, which are just looking for their first food sources in early spring. 'San Luiz' grows on sturdy stems reaching a height of just under half a meter, which makes it a perfect flower not only for garden displays but also for cut bouquets. Indoors, it maintains its attractive shape and rich shade for many days. We like to combine it with white or, conversely, deep yellow tulip varieties and small bulbous plants, with which it forms beautifully balanced spring displays.

Zinnia Cresto Peachy Pink, Loukykvět

Zinnia elegans

Zinnia 'Cresto Peachy Pink' brings a refreshing palette of colors full of cool tones to summer flower beds. Growing this charming annual from seeds is ideal even for complete beginners. The seeds are sown directly into the flower bed during May and June, as soon as the danger of frost has passed. The 'Cresto' series is characterized by fully double, scabiosa-flowered types that catch the eye with their unconventional shape and fluffy centers. Compared to the 'Peaches & Cream' variety, this variant offers cooler shades of pink, from pastel to deep bubblegum, with delicate touches of tangerine and apricot. The plants grow to a height of sixty to ninety centimeters, and occasional pinching will benefit them with richer branching. In the garden, they form beautiful combinations with delicate ornamental grasses or other annuals in similar tones. Zinnia also acts as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Long, sturdy stems, which sometimes benefit from light support, make this flower the perfect material for cutting. The colorful flowers last for many days in a vase and will enliven any summer interior.

Cultivation

GENERAL INFO

Peony roots are living material, which is why we store them under specific conditions — we must ensure the roots have sufficient moisture to prevent excessive drying. However, when stored in moisture, a light surface mold may appear; this is a cosmetic phenomenon that does not affect subsequent growth. We pack the roots right before dispatch to keep their storage time in closed packaging as short as possible.

PLANTING

Therefore, do not delay planting the peonies so that their roots do not dry out too much during storage; as we have already written, storage is more demanding. When planting, it is necessary to pay attention to the correct planting depth and not to "drown" the plants, because then they would not bloom. We plant them so that after watering, the buds of the shoots protrude slightly above the surface of the substrate with their tips. The lowest buds should be a maximum of 2-3 centimeters below the surface. The planting hole should be twice as wide and deep as the peony root. Expect the soil to settle after watering. If you are planting late in the autumn, you can cover the new plants with brushwood before winter.

LOCATION

Peonies bloom best in a sunny spot. However, they are quite adaptable and can also thrive in partially shaded locations, although they need a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight for abundant flowering. All peonies need plenty of space around them; they do not like competition from shrubs or hedges. You should reserve an area of one square meter for a peony, where they will not have to compete even with other vigorously growing perennials.

SOIL CONDITIONS

Peonies need well-draining, loamy, and nutrient-rich garden soil that retains adequate moisture well. They cannot tolerate waterlogging in overly heavy soil.

WATERING

Newly planted peonies need watering, especially during their first spring in periods of drought. Mature peonies will be more resilient, and watering will come in handy only in the event of a very dry spring and early summer. After flowering, they usually no longer have problems with summer drought.

FERTILIZING

Peonies need plenty of nutrients; an organic fertilizer rich in potassium in the spring is suitable. On the other hand, beware of too much nitrogen. The plants would then be more susceptible to fungal diseases. In the autumn, you can spread a one-centimeter-thin layer of mature compost around the plant.

DISEASE PREVENTION

Maintain a sufficient distance when planting so that air circulates well between the plants. Regularly remove dead flowers, and remove any diseased leaves. These must not be placed on the compost, but thrown away with regular household waste.

TREATMENT AND CARE

In the first years after planting, we remove side buds so that the plants grow stronger. In late autumn, you can remove dead leaves. Count on support for the plants; all herbaceous peonies need it. Watch out for spring frosts, especially if they follow a mild winter. Sprouting flower buds can tolerate temperatures dropping to -3°C; at lower temperatures, they die off. In this case, we protect the peonies with non-woven fabric.

(not) TRANSPLANTING

Choose the location well; peonies prefer undisturbed growth without transplanting. This is possible with older plants, which we divide during the process, ensuring each part has three to seven buds. The most suitable period is from September to October.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.

Peony Sarah Bernhardt, Loukykvět

Paeonia

Peonies are valuable in gardens for their large and impressive flowers. They are long-lived perennials for patient gardeners. It takes them several years to grow to full beauty and before you see abundant flowering. Therefore, a blooming peony the very first year after planting is rather an exception, definitely not the rule. To bloom, it needs the right conditions in addition to time. Study our growing guide. Herbaceous garden peonies are one of the longest-bred garden plants, and most cultivars have their origins in Chinese and medicinal peonies, which have long been part of monastery gardens. Today we combine them with perennials, grasses, and bulbs. However, we always give them enough space in the flowerbed. The Sarah Bernhardt peony was bred in 1906 and remains one of the most popular peonies on the flower market. The pink color of its flowers is compared to the coloring of peach blossoms. It belongs among the late-flowering varieties, and its flowers are double and fragrant.

Peony Coral Charm, Loukykvět

Paeonia

The 'Coral Charm' peony captivates with its dark coral buds, which gradually open into large, semi-double flowers. For successful growing, not only time is key, but also the right conditions and plenty of space in the flower bed – we therefore recommend studying our growing guide.

Monsieur Jules Elie is a breathtakingly pink peony with a full flower and a magical fragrance. Its slender stems need support to carry the double flowers.
