Peony Coral Charm, Loukykvět

The 'Coral Charm' peony captivates with its dark coral buds, which gradually open into large, semi-double flowers. Larkspur QIS White, Loukykvět

Delphinium consolida

Delphinium consolida, known better as Larkspur, is a typical annual for both country and modern gardens. The 'QIS White' cultivar stands out with pure white flowers that densely cover long, straight stems. These can grow up to one hundred and twenty centimeters in height, creating an interesting layer in the flower bed and adding airiness to the space. The pure white color acts as a great neutral element that easily connects even very colorful flowers in the vicinity. These are wonderful spring beauties that are hard to beat at the turn of spring and summer. They are very easy to grow from seeds and pose no major challenge for beginners. In floristry, they are suitable for wedding bouquets and for drying. For a perfect cut, you must be quick and harvest the stems before all the buds have fully opened. We recommend sowing the seeds gradually at two-week intervals during the spring or at the end of summer so you can enjoy the beauty of these flowers for as long as possible.

Zinnia Cresto Peachy Pink, Loukykvět

Zinnia elegans

Zinnia 'Cresto Peachy Pink' brings a refreshing palette of colors full of cool tones to summer flower beds. Growing this charming annual from seeds is ideal even for complete beginners. The seeds are sown directly into the flower bed during May and June, as soon as the danger of frost has passed. The 'Cresto' series is characterized by fully double, scabiosa-flowered types that catch the eye with their unconventional shape and fluffy centers. Compared to the 'Peaches & Cream' variety, this variant offers cooler shades of pink, from pastel to deep bubblegum, with delicate touches of tangerine and apricot. The plants grow to a height of sixty to ninety centimeters, and occasional pinching will benefit them with richer branching. In the garden, they form beautiful combinations with delicate ornamental grasses or other annuals in similar tones. Zinnia also acts as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Long, sturdy stems, which sometimes benefit from light support, make this flower the perfect material for cutting. The colorful flowers last for many days in a vase and will enliven any summer interior.

Stock Katz Cherry Blossom, Loukykvět

Matthiola incana

Stock is a wonderful cut flower! It likes low temperatures, yet we grow three batches a year – two in spring and one in autumn. You harvest just one bloom per plant, but it is a really large, double one. Stock smells beautiful, almost intoxicating, and lasts a long time in a vase. The flowers are edible. The Katz series is not as susceptible to temperature changes, and is generally easier to grow for beginning gardeners. However, this comes at the cost of thinner stems and a lower percentage of double flowers. Katz Cherry Blossom is a soft shade of pink in the colors of apple blossoms. All stocks produce some plants with double flowers and some single. The ratio is different for each series. Katz has 55-60% double-flowered plants. We therefore recommend growing a bit more. At our farm, however, we use the single ones too; they look super unique.

Cultivation

GENERAL INFO

Peony roots are living material, which is why we store them under specific conditions — we must ensure sufficient moisture for the roots to prevent them from drying out excessively. When stored in damp conditions, however, a light surface mold may appear; this is a cosmetic phenomenon that does not affect subsequent growth. We pack the roots just before shipping so that their time in a closed package is as short as possible.

PLANTING

Do not delay planting your peonies, so their roots do not dry out too much during storage; as we mentioned, storage is demanding. When planting, it is necessary to pay attention to the correct planting depth and not "drown" the plants, as they would then not bloom. We plant them so that, after watering, the shoot buds slightly protrude above the surface of the substrate. The lowest buds should be a maximum of 2-3 centimeters below the surface. The planting hole should be twice as wide and deep as the peony root. Expect the soil to settle after watering. If you are planting late in the autumn, you can cover the new plants with brushwood before winter.

LOCATION

Peonies bloom best in a sunny spot. However, they are quite adaptable and can thrive in semi-shaded positions, though for abundant flowering they need at least 6 hours of sunshine. All peonies need plenty of space around them; they do not like competition from shrubs or hedges. You should reserve an area of one square meter for a peony, where they will not be competed with by other lushly growing perennials.

SOIL CONDITIONS

Peonies need permeable, loamy, and nutrient-rich garden soil that retains reasonable moisture well. They do not tolerate waterlogging in overly heavy soil.

WATERING

Newly planted peonies need watering especially during their first spring during dry periods. Mature peonies are more resilient, and watering is only useful in the event of a very dry spring and early summer. After blooming, they generally do not have issues with summer drought.

FERTILIZATION

Peonies need plenty of nutrients; an organic fertilizer rich in potassium is suitable in the spring. Conversely, watch out for excessive amounts of nitrogen. The plants would then be more susceptible to fungal diseases. In the autumn, you can spread a centimeter-thin layer of well-matured compost around the plant.

DISEASE PREVENTION

Maintain sufficient distance when planting so that air can circulate well between the plants. Regularly remove dead flowers and remove any diseased leaves. These must not be put in the compost but should be disposed of with regular household waste.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

In the first years after planting, we remove side buds so that the plants grow stronger. At the end of autumn, you can remove dead leaves. Expect to provide support for the plants; all herbaceous peonies need it. Watch out for spring frosts, especially if they follow a mild winter. Sprouting flower buds can tolerate temperatures dropping to -3°C; at lower temperatures, they die. In this case, protect the peonies with non-woven fabric.

(NOT) TRANSPLANTING

Choose the location carefully; peonies prefer undisturbed growth without transplanting. This is possible with older plants, which can be divided so that each part has three to seven buds. The most suitable period is from September to October.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. Paeonia

Peonies are valuable in gardens for their large and impressive flowers. They are long-lived perennials for patient gardeners. It takes them several years to grow to full beauty and for you to see abundant flowering. Therefore, a blooming peony in the very first year after planting is more of an exception, certainly not the rule. Besides time, it needs the right conditions to flower. Check out our growing guide. Herbaceous garden peonies are one of the longest-bred garden plants, and most cultivars originate from Chinese and medicinal peonies, which have long been part of monastery gardens. Today, we combine them with perennials, grasses, and bulbs. However, we always give them plenty of space in the flowerbed. Monsieur Jules Elie is a breathtakingly pink peony with a full flower and a magical scent. Its slender stems deserve support to carry the full flowers. Herbaceous garden peonies are one of the longest-bred garden plants, and most cultivars have their origins in Chinese and medicinal peonies, which have long been part of monastery gardens. Today we combine them with perennials, grasses, and bulbs. However, we always give them enough space in the flowerbed. Pink Hawaian Coral blooms, like all coral-colored peonies, right at the start of the peony season. Its flowers are semi-double, 15 to 20 cm large. If you are looking for a coral peony but would like to avoid the orange undertone during flowering, Pink Hawaian Coral is the right choice. Its flowers transition from coral to pale pink.
