The 'Sweet Nathalie' dahlia won us over with its incredibly delicate color palette, from the lightest pastel pink to a creamy center. Thanks to this, it was one of the most used dahlias for weddings. It has perfectly shaped flowers and rounded petals. As a result, the whole plant has a very tender impression, which is further accentuated by the contrasting dark stems. The flowers reach a size of around 10 to 13 centimeters, and even in full bloom, they do not close into a complete ball, but rather maintain a hemisphere shape with a flat back.

Pěstování této oblíbené svatební jiřiny Sweet Nathalie začíná výběrem správného stanoviště. Vyžaduje slunné místo chráněné před silným větrem a kvalitní, humózní a dobře propustnou půdu. Protože jde o hlíznatou rostlinu, která není mrazuvzdorná, vysazujeme ji ven až v době, kdy pominou jarní mrazíky, což bývá obvykle v druhé polovině května nebo v červnu. Pokud se nemůžete dočkat prvních květů, můžete hlízy předpěstovat v květináčích na světlém a bezmrazém místě už od března. Při samotné výsadbě dbejte na to, aby byla hlíza uložena vodorovně v hloubce 10–15 cm, přičemž nad krčkem by mělo být zhruba 5 cm zeminy. Dodržujte spon 30–50 cm, aby měly rostliny dostatek prostoru k růstu.
Během vegetace potřebuje Sweet Nathalie pravidelnou péči. Vzhledem k její úctyhodné výšce 80–160 cm je naprosto nezbytné rostlině zajistit pevnou oporu, jinak by se její křehké tmavé stonky mohly pod tíhou velkých květů zlomit. Pro dosažení bohatého kvetení a kompaktního tvaru je klíčové zaštipování. Jakmile rostlina vytvoří několik párů pravých listů, zaštípněte vrcholový výhon, čímž podpoříte větvení. Nezapomínejte ani na pravidelné odstraňování odkvetlých květů, což rostlinu nutí zakládat nová poupata až do podzimu. Zálivku udržujte přiměřenou – půda by neměla úplně vyschnout, ale ani být přemokřená. Co se týče výživy, na začátku sezóny podpořte růst dusíkatým hnojivem (např. peletovaný drůbeží trus), ale s násadou poupat přejděte na hnojiva s vyšším obsahem draslíku (jako Kristalon Plod a květ), který zajistí pevné stonky a krásné vybarvení květů.
Pokud plánujete využít Sweet Nathalie k řezu, což se díky její jemné paletě barev přímo nabízí, sklízejte květy ve správný čas. Ideální je stádium, kdy jsou květy otevřené ze tří čtvrtin, ale stále mají pevné okvětní lístky na zadní straně. Jiřiny se ve váze už příliš nerozvíjí, proto je nepodtrhávejte. Pro maximální výdrž, která se pohybuje okolo jednoho týdne, ponořte konce stonků ihned po uříznutí na minimálně 15 minut do horké vody o teplotě 70–80 °C. S příchodem prvních mrazů, které spálí nadzemní část, je nutné hlízy opatrně vyrýt, očistit a uskladnit v bezmrazé, tmavé místnosti v bedýnce s pískem či pilinami. Během zimy hlízy kontrolujte. Na jaře pak můžete velké trsy dělit nebo využít řízkování narašených výhonů pro namnožení rostlin. Pozor si dejte na slimáky, kteří mladé jiřiny milují, a preventivně hlídejte výskyt mšic či třásněnek.
