Cultivation
Pěstování jiřiny White Perfection a jejich obřích, čistě bílých květů o velikosti až 26 cm je vhodné i pro úplné začátečníky. Nejlépe se jí daří na plném slunci v dobře propustné a humózní půdě. Výsadbu hlíz ven plánujte až na dobu, kdy nehrozí jarní mrazíky, což bývá obvykle v květnu nebo začátkem června. Hlízu uložte vodorovně do hloubky zhruba 10-15 cm tak, aby očko (budoucí stonek) směřovalo nahoru, a zasypejte ji zeminou. Pro uspíšení kvetení můžete hlízy už od března předpěstovat v květináčích uvnitř. Rostliny vysazujte ve sponu 30-50 cm (zhruba 1 až 4 rostliny na metr čtvereční), aby měly dostatek životního prostoru.
Vzhledem k výšce 80-160 cm a mohutným květům je naprosto nezbytná pevná opora, například pomocí kůlů a provázků, jinak hrozí zlomení stonků. Pro bohaté rozvětvení nezapomeňte mladé rostliny zaštipovat – jakmile mají několik párů pravých listů, odstraňte vrcholový výhon. Zálivku udržujte střední, půda by měla být vlhká, ale nikdy ne přemokřená. Zpočátku podpořte růst zelené hmoty hnojivem s vyšším obsahem dusíku (například peletovaný drůbeží trus nebo Kristalon Start). Jakmile se začnou tvořit poupata, přejděte na hnojivo s převahou draslíku pro silné stonky a bohaté kvetení. Pravidelným odstraňováním odkvetlých květů navíc prodloužíte dobu kvetení až do pozdního podzimu.
Jiřina White Perfection je vynikající k řezu do velkých aranžmá. Sklízejte ve chvíli, kdy je květ otevřený zhruba ze tří čtvrtin, protože ve váze se už příliš nerozvine. Zkontrolujte zadní stranu květu – okvětní lístky tam musí být pevné a svěží. Pro maximální výdrž, která bývá kolem jednoho týdne, aplikujte speciální posklizňovou péči. Ihned po seříznutí ponořte konce stonků na minimálně 15 minut do horké vody o teplotě 70-80 °C. Tím se stonky ošetří, zlepší se sání vody a květina vydrží mnohem déle čerstvá.
S prvními podzimními mrazíky, které spálí nadzemní část, sezóna končí. Hlízy opatrně vykopejte rýčem, očistěte a uskladněte v chladné, temné a bezmrazé místnosti (například v bedýnkách s pískem). Na jaře můžete větší trsy rozdělit a tím rostlinu namnožit, nebo využít brzké jarní řízkování narašených hlíz. Během pěstování si dávejte velký pozor na slimáky, kteří rádi likvidují mladé výhonky – zde pomůže sběr nebo ekologické návnady. Občas se mohou objevit třásněnky nebo virová mozaika, proto dbejte na čistotu nářadí a napadené rostliny případně včas odstraňte.
