Cultivation
Úspěšné pěstování jiřiny Otto’s Thrill začíná volbou správného místa. Tato odrůda vyžaduje plné slunce a dobře propustnou, humózní půdu. Hlízy sázejte ven až v době, kdy nehrozí přízemní mrazíky, tedy od poloviny května do června. Uložte je do hloubky 10 až 15 centimetrů vodorovně, očkem směřujícím nahoru, a zahrňte zeminou tak, aby nad krčkem zůstalo zhruba pět centimetrů půdy. Pro ideální růst dodržujte spon 30 až 50 centimetrů. Pokud se už nemůžete dočkat obřích malinově růžových květů, můžete hlízy od března předpěstovat v květináčích na světlém místě bez mrazu.
Protože Otto’s Thrill dorůstá výšky 80 až 160 centimetrů a její květy mohou mít v průměru až 25 centimetrů, je naprosto nezbytné zajistit rostlinám pevnou oporu. K opoře se skvěle hodí dřevěné nebo kovové sloupky s provázkem, které zabrání zlomení stonků pod tíhou květů nebo ve větru. Aby se rostlina krásně rozvětvila a netvořila jen jeden vytáhlý stonek, nezapomeňte na zaštipování. Jakmile vyrostou první páry pravých listů, vrcholový výhon jednoduše odštípněte. Zálivku udržujte střední, jiřiny mají rády vláhu, ale nesnášejí přemokření. Zpočátku podpořte růst hnojivem s vyšším obsahem dusíku, a jakmile se objeví první poupata, přejděte na hnojivo s převahou draslíku pro mimořádně bohaté kvetení.
Tato jiřina je naprosto fantastická k řezu do vázy. Sklízejte ve chvíli, kdy jsou květy otevřené zhruba ze tří čtvrtin, protože ve váze už se příliš nerozvinou. Zkontrolujte zadní stranu květu, okvětní lístky musí být pevné a plné síly. Pro maximální prodloužení výdrže ve váze ponořte konce stonků ihned po uříznutí na 15 minut do horké vody o teplotě 70 až 80 °C. Pravidelným odstraňováním odkvetlých květů přímo na záhonu navíc rostlinu podnítíte k tvorbě nových a nových poupat, a to od července až do listopadu.
Během vegetace dávejte pozor na škůdce. Mladé výhonky jsou velkým lákadlem pro slimáky a plzáky, proto včas zakročte, případně použijte přípravky typu Ferramol. Rostliny pravidelně kontrolujte, protože se výjimečně mohou objevit i drobné třásněnky nebo nevyléčitelný virus mozaiky, u kterého je nezbytné napadenou rostlinu ihned zlikvidovat. S příchodem prvních podzimních mrazíků, které spálí nadzemní část, celá letní sezóna končí. Hlízy opatrně vykopejte rýčem, očistěte od přebytečné zeminy a uložte do bezmrazé, temné místnosti do bedýnky s pískem či pilinami, kde bezpečně přezimují. Pro jarní množení pak můžete využít dělení starších hlíz před výsadbou nebo březnové řízkování z prvních narašených výhonů.
