Cultivation
Pěstování oblíbené jiřiny Evanah je ideální i pro začátečníky. Tato odrůda vyžaduje slunné stanoviště s dobře propustnou a humózní půdou. Hlízy vysazujeme ven až v době, kdy nehrozí přízemní mrazíky, tedy v průběhu května až června. Hlízu zasaďte do hloubky 10 až 15 cm, položte ji vodorovně očkem nahoru a zahrňte zeminou tak, aby nad krčkem bylo asi 5 cm půdy. Nezapomeňte dodržet spon 30 až 50 cm (zhruba 1 až 4 rostliny na metr čtvereční), aby měly jiřiny dostatek prostoru pro růst. Pro dřívější nástup kvetení můžete hlízy předpěstovat v květináči na světlém a bezmrazém místě již od března.
Během růstu se tato jiřina vytáhne do výšky 80 až 160 cm, proto je naprosto nezbytné jí zajistit pevnou oporu. Ideální jsou sloupky s provázkem, které rostlinu ochrání před zlomením větrem nebo tíhou květů. Pro bohaté větvení a více pastelově růžových květů je klíčové zaštipování – jakmile má rostlina několik párů pravých listů, zaštípněte její vrchol. Jiřiny mají rády přiměřenou vláhu, ale nesnášejí přemokření. Zpočátku růstu podpořte rostlinu hnojivem s vyšším obsahem dusíku (například peletovaný drůbeží trus). Jakmile se objeví první poupata, přejděte na hnojivo s převahou draslíku (např. Kristalon Plod a květ), které podpoří bohaté kvetení a zpevní stonky.
Jiřina Evanah je fantastická k řezu, zejména do romantických svatebních kytic. Sklízejte ji ve chvíli, kdy jsou květy otevřené zhruba ze tří čtvrtin. Ve váze už se totiž více nerozvinou. Zkontrolujte zadní stranu květu – okvětní lístky musí být pevné a svěží. Pro prodloužení výdrže ihned po uříznutí ponořte konce stonků na 15 minut do horké vody (70–80 °C). Díky tomuto kroku vydrží ve váze krásná zhruba týden. Nezapomínejte také na pravidelné odstraňování odkvetlých květů přímo na záhonu, čímž rostlinu stimulujete k tvorbě nových poupat od července až do listopadu.
S příchodem prvních podzimních mrazíků, které spálí nadzemní část, sezóna končí a je čas na zazimování hlíz. Opatrně je vyryjte, očistěte a nechte oschnout. Skladujte je v bezmrazé, temné a chladné místnosti, ideálně v bedýnce s pilinami nebo pískem. Starší hlízy můžete před jarní výsadbou dělit, nebo si je namnožit řízkováním narašených výhonů brzy z jara. Během pěstování si dávejte pozor na slimáky a plzáky, kteří rádi likvidují mladé výhonky – zde pomůže včasný sběr nebo ekologické granule. Občas se mohou objevit třásněnky nebo virová mozaika, proto napadené části rostlin včas odstraňujte a udržujte záhon vzdušný.
