Pěstování jiřiny Esli je ideální i pro začátečníky, pokud jí dopřejete to správné místo. Nejlépe se jí bude dařit na plném slunci v dobře propustné a humózní půdě. Hlízy sázejte ven až od poloviny května do června, kdy už nehrozí přízemní mrazíky. Ideální hloubka výsadby je 10 až 15 centimetrů, přičemž hlízu ukládejte vodorovně očkem směřujícím nahoru. Zasypte ji tak, aby nad krčkem zbylo zhruba 5 centimetrů zeminy. Nezapomeňte dodržet spon 30 až 50 centimetrů, což odpovídá zhruba jedné až čtyřem rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Pro dřívější kvetení si můžete hlízy už od března předpěstovat v květináčích na světlém místě chráněném před mrazem.
Během růstu se tato letnička vytáhne do výšky 80 až 160 centimetrů, proto zcela nezbytně vyžaduje oporu, například ve formě sloupků s provázkem, aby se stonky ve větru nezlomily. Klíčem k bohatému keříčkovitému růstu je zaštipování. Jakmile rostlina vytvoří několik párů pravých listů, neváhejte vrcholový výhon zaštípnout. Důležitá je také mírná, ale pravidelná zálivka, protože jiřiny milují vláhu, ale nesnášejí přemokření. Na začátku růstu podpořte rostlinu hnojivem s vyšším podílem dusíku pro vývoj stonků a listů. Jakmile se objeví první poupata, přejděte na hnojivo s převahou draslíku, které podpoří tvorbu nádherných růžových květů. Nezapomínejte ani na pravidelné odstraňování odkvetlých květů, čímž prodloužíte dobu kvetení až do listopadu.
Jiřina Esli je naprosto fantastická k řezu, její kompaktní kulovité květy žvýkačkové barvy vypadají v kyticích skvěle. Aby vám ve váze vydržela co nejdéle, sklízejte květy ve chvíli, kdy jsou do tří čtvrtin otevřené. Jiřiny se totiž po uříznutí už příliš nerozvinou. Vždy zkontrolujte zadní stranu květu, zda jsou okvětní lístky pevné a bujné. Ihned po odříznutí ponořte konce stonků na minimálně 15 minut do horké vody o teplotě 70 až 80 °C. Tato specifická posklizňová péče zaručí, že vám květy vydrží dělat radost ve váze přibližně jeden týden.
Jakmile první podzimní mrazíky spálí nadzemní část rostliny, je čas hlízy vykopat, protože nejsou mrazuvzdorné. Opatrně je vyzdvihněte rýčem, očistěte a po oschnutí uskladněte v chladné, temné a bezmrazé místnosti, nejlépe v bedýnce s pilinami nebo pískem. Během pěstování si dávejte velký pozor na slimáky, kteří dokážou mladé výhonky zcela zdecimovat, a v případě potřeby sáhněte po přípravku Ferramol. Rostlinu mohou potrápit i třásněnky nebo virus mozaiky, proto udržujte porost vzdušný a zdravý. Pokud si budete chtít jiřinu namnožit, můžete starší trsy před výsadbou rozdělit, nebo koncem zimy vyzkoušet řízkování z narašených hlíz.
