Pěstování jiřiny Wizard Of Oz začíná výběrem správného stanoviště. Hlízy milují slunné polohy a vyžadují humózní, dobře propustnou půdu, aby neuhnívaly. S výsadbou ven nespěchejte, ideální čas je až v momentě, kdy pominou jarní mrazíky, tedy v květnu až červnu. Hlízu zasaďte do hloubky 10–15 cm, položte ji vodorovně a dbejte na to, aby „očko“ směřovalo vzhůru. Dodržujte spon 30–50 cm, protože tato odrůda potřebuje prostor. Pokud se nemůžete dočkat prvních květů, můžete hlízy předpěstovat v květináčích doma či ve skleníku už od března. Rostliny pak budou silnější a pokvetou dříve.
Během růstu je klíčová péče o tvar a stabilitu rostliny. Vzhledem k výšce 80–160 cm je nezbytné rostlinám zajistit pevnou oporu, aby se stonky pod tíhou květů nebo vlivem větru nezlomily. Jakmile rostlina vytvoří několik párů pravých listů, zaštípněte vrcholový výhon. Tím podpoříte větvení a získáte bohatší trs s větším množstvím květů. Nezapomínejte na zálivku – jiřiny mají rády vláhu, ale nesnášejí přemokření. Co se týče výživy, na začátku sezóny podpořte růst hnojivem s převahou dusíku (např. peletovaný drůbeží trus nebo Kristalon Start). Jakmile se objeví první poupata, přejděte na hnojiva s vyšším obsahem draslíku (např. Kristalon Plod a květ), což zajistí krásné vybarvení a pevnost květů.
Pro využití do kytic sklízejte květy, když jsou otevřené zhruba ze tří čtvrtin. Zkontrolujte zadní stranu květu – okvětní lístky by měly být pevné a svěží. Protože se jiřiny po řezu už příliš nerozvíjejí, nesklízejte je příliš brzy. Pro prodloužení výdrže ve váze (cca týden) ponořte konce stonků ihned po uříznutí na 15 minut do vody o teplotě 70–80 °C. Nezapomeňte také na rostlině odstraňovat odkvetlé květy, prodloužíte tím kvetení až do prvních mrazů.
Jelikož jiřiny nejsou mrazuvzdorné (0 °C), s příchodem prvních mrazíků, které spálí nadzemní část, musíte hlízy vykopat. Očistěte je, nechte oschnout a uskladněte v temnu a chladu, například v bedýnce s pilinami nebo pískem. Pokud chcete rostlinu namnožit, můžete na jaře hlízy rozdělit nebo využít řízkování z narašených výhonů. Při pěstování buďte ostražití vůči slimákům, kteří dokážou mladé výhony zlikvidovat, a hlídejte výskyt mšic či třásněnek, které mohou přenášet virové choroby.
