Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

It is a classic perennial for cut bouquets, where it delights with a delicate fragrance in addition to colorful flowers. We harvest as soon as roughly half of the flowers in the inflorescence are open; then it lasts up to 10 days in a vase. Despite efforts to breed the most resistant cultivars possible, it remains true that Phlox reacts extremely sensitively to climate and soil conditions, so we pay careful attention to the correct choice of location. The Franz Schubert cultivar has pastel lilac flowers that fade towards the edge. The delicate flower color looks especially beautiful in combination with dark-leaved plants. It smells lovely.

Cultivation
Hrachor je nenáročná pnoucí trvalka, kterou od nás obdržíte jako vzrostlou sazenici připravenou k okamžité výsadbě. Ideální pro ni bude slunné stanoviště nebo polostín, kde plně vynikne její krása. Půda by měla být kyprá, propustná a hlinitá, středně bohatá na živiny. Jelikož se tato rostlina dokáže poměrně rychle vyšplhat až do výšky přes dva metry, je naprosto klíčové zajistit jí hned při výsadbě pevnou oporu. Skvěle se hodí k ozelenění plotů, vysokých treláží nebo altánů. Dodržujte doporučený spon zhruba 100 centimetrů, na jeden metr čtvereční vám tak postačí jedna až dvě sazenice, což zajistí dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu.
Během sezóny vyžaduje hrachor mírnou, ale pravidelnou zálivku. Udržujte půdu vlhkou, nikoliv však přemokřenou, aby kořeny mohly správně dýchat. Pokud se rozhodnete pěstovat tuto nádhernou trvalku v nádobě na terase nebo balkoně, zvolte dostatečně hluboký a velký květináč s masivní drenážní vrstvou na dně, aby kořeny v žádném případě neuhnívaly. V květináči bude rostlina logicky potřebovat častější zálivku a pravidelné přihnojování běžným tekutým hnojivem pro kvetoucí rostliny. V záhonu si trvalka většinou vystačí s vydatnější jarní dávkou kvalitního kompostu.
Čistě bílé květy se objevují od června do září a jsou mimořádně vhodné i k řezu do letních váz. Aby rostlina tvořila stále nová poupata a nekvetla jen krátce, velmi doporučujeme pravidelně odstraňovat odkvetlé výhony a uvadající květy. Tato zdánlivě drobná péče znatelně prodlouží celkovou dobu kvetení. Krásu kvetoucího hrachoru si tak užijete déle a pěstování s přehledem zvládnou i naprostí zahradničtí začátečníci.
S blížící se zimou nadzemní část rostliny přirozeně odumírá. V tuto chvíli, případně brzy na jaře před rašením, můžete suché výhony seříznout těsně nad zemí. Na jaře rostlina spolehlivě obrazí znovu od kořenů. Hrachor je plně mrazuvzdorný a hravě zvládne teploty klesající až k minus osmadvaceti stupňům, na záhonu tedy nevyžaduje absolutně žádnou speciální zimní ochranu. U rostlin pěstovaných v nádobách doporučujeme květináč obalit jutou nebo polystyrenem proti hlubokému promrznutí kořenového balu. Při manipulaci a běžné péči nezapomínejte na to, že je rostlina jedovatá.

In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
