The perennial sweet pea White Pearl will bring a flood of pure white flowers to the garden and liven up any empty support. It originally comes from the light woodland edges of Southern and Central Europe, where it climbs over the surrounding vegetation. Therefore, a sunny spot or partial shade and ordinary, well-drained loamy soil suit it well. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply transplant directly into the flowerbed. It is an exceptionally resilient perennial that can handle frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. For successful growth, it needs support to climb to a height of over two meters. Throughout the entire summer, it forms clusters of flowers similar to the annual sweet pea. Although they lack its fragrance, they reliably attract bees and butterflies. The White Pearl cultivar captivates with its pure white color, making it look very elegant. It does not suffer from pests and even beginners can handle growing it. Therefore, it is ideal to plant the poppy in the flower bed in close proximity to other perennials that sprout slightly later and naturally fill the empty space left by the resting poppy. It avoids diseases and needs no support, reaching a height of around sixty to eighty centimeters. Just watch out for field voles, which might develop a taste for its fleshy roots. Otherwise, it is a long-lived plant that even a complete beginner can handle without worries. Given that the plant is poisonous, it is naturally not intended for consumption. The giant white flowers are also a great attraction for lovers of cut flowers, although they require a little trick. Similar to other poppies, the stems need to be harvested exactly at the moment when the buds begin to color and slightly crack. Right after cutting, we sear the ends of the stems with a flame for about twenty seconds to prevent sap leakage, and then we put them into cold water. Thanks to this procedure, they will stay beautiful for about four days in a vase and add amazing lightness to bouquets. Although these delicate flowers are not suitable for drying, they simply have no competition in fresh spring bouquets.

Cultivation
Sweet pea is an undemanding climbing perennial, which you will receive from us as a well-grown seedling ready for immediate planting. A sunny location or partial shade, where its beauty will fully stand out, will be ideal for it. The soil should be loose, well-drained, and loamy, moderately rich in nutrients. Since this plant can climb relatively quickly up to a height of over two meters, it is absolutely crucial to provide it with a firm support right at planting. It is perfectly suited for greening fences, high trellises, or gazebos. Maintain the recommended spacing of roughly 100 centimeters; one to two seedlings will suffice per square meter, which will ensure adequate air circulation.
During the season, sweet pea requires moderate but regular watering. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged, so the roots can breathe properly. If you decide to grow this gorgeous perennial in a container on a terrace or balcony, choose a sufficiently deep and large pot with a massive drainage layer at the bottom so that the roots do not rot under any circumstances. In a pot, the plant will logically need more frequent watering and regular fertilizing with a common liquid fertilizer for flowering plants. In a flowerbed, the perennial usually makes do with a more generous spring dose of high-quality compost.
The pure white flowers appear from June to September and are exceptionally suitable for cutting into summer vases. So that the plant forms new buds constantly and doesn't bloom only briefly, we highly recommend regularly removing faded shoots and wilting flowers. This seemingly minor care will noticeably prolong the overall flowering time. You will thus enjoy the beauty of the blooming sweet pea longer, and even complete gardening beginners will handle growing it with ease.
With approaching winter, the above-ground part of the plant naturally dies off. At this moment, or early in the spring before sprouting, you can cut the dry shoots just above the ground. In the spring, the plant will reliably sprout from the roots again. Sweet pea is fully frost-resistant and easily handles temperatures dropping down to minus twenty-eight degrees, so it requires absolutely no special winter protection in the flowerbed. For plants grown in containers, we recommend wrapping the pot with jute or polystyrene against deep freezing of the root ball. During handling and routine care, do not forget that the plant is poisonous.
