Glasswort, often known as sea asparagus, is an extraordinarily interesting edible annual that will enrich both your garden and kitchen. In its native habitat, it grows naturally on sunny coastlines in sandy, saline soil, forming dense green carpets. Here, it prefers full sun and very well-drained, rather poor soil. It also thrives beautifully in containers on a patio or sunny balcony. You will receive a beautifully established seedling in a pot, which you can simply transplant to your chosen spot. A major advantage is that it does not suffer from common diseases or pests, making it exceptionally easy to grow even for a complete beginner.
This small succulent plant grows to a height of ten to thirty centimeters, and from May to August, tiny, inconspicuous flowers in white, yellow, and green tones appear. The biggest appeal of glasswort, however, is its culinary use. The fleshy green stems have a naturally salty flavor somewhat reminiscent of young spinach. It tastes great raw as a crunchy addition to fresh salads, but it becomes an absolute delicacy when briefly sautéed in butter with a little garlic. Growing it will give you not only an unconventional green ornamental for sunny borders but also a fantastic ingredient for your culinary experiments.

We grow glasswort as an annual plant. Because you will receive an already beautifully grown seedling in a pot from us, you can place it directly in its permanent location without worries after delivery. It thrives best in a full sun location; a hot and sunny spot on the south side of the garden is ideal, where it will feel like it's on a sun-drenched seacoast. Above all, the soil should be very well-drained, poor, and ideally rather sandy or stony. If you have standard heavy soil in your garden that retains moisture, be sure to thoroughly improve it with coarse sand or fine gravel before planting. This will prevent water from standing at the roots, which would harm the plant.
Basic rules of care:
- Watering and fertilizing: Although it is a smaller succulent plant reaching a height of ten to thirty centimeters, it will very much appreciate regular, but rather moderate, watering in the hot summer. However, be very careful of overwatering; moisture conditions should generally remain on the drier side. Standard fertilizing is not necessary at all, because it thrives by far the best in naturally poor soil.
- Trick for perfect flavor: What is absolutely specific to growing this herb is its natural need for salt. Occasional watering with slightly salted water (approximately one teaspoon of high-quality sea salt per one liter of water) will significantly promote its typical salty taste and overall vitality.
Glasswort is absolutely excellent for growing in containers and planters on a sunny balcony or terrace, where you will have it close to the kitchen. In a pot, just don't forget a thick and high-quality drainage layer at the bottom. A great advantage of this plant is its huge natural resistance. You don't have to fear any growing complications, as it doesn't suffer from common diseases and all pests reliably avoid it. Since it is an annual, its life cycle naturally ends before the arrival of autumn frosts, and thus we do not overwinter the plant in any way. During the summer, you can continuously pinch off young fleshy green shoots for salads, which will also beautifully thicken the seedling and support its growth.

The Maxima cultivar is exceptional for its velvety, grayish-green leaves, which grow up to three times larger than those of standard varieties. We grow it primarily for these massive, highly aromatic leaves, which have a wide range of uses in the kitchen and in tea blends. During June and July, it produces violet-blue flowers that draw in pollinators. However, if you want to retain maximum aroma in the foliage, we recommend pinching out the emerging flowers. The sturdy stems are brilliant for cutting into summer bouquets, lasting around a week, or drying for winter floristry displays.

Garden parsley is not just an ordinary herb for soup, but a surprisingly versatile and hardy perennial that deserves a place in every garden. Its home is the sunny Mediterranean region, so it will thrive in your garden in full sun in loamy, humus-rich soil with regular watering. From our offer, you will receive a well-rooted seedling in a pot that just needs to be tipped out and planted in your chosen spot. It can grow in a classic garden bed or in a spacious planter on the terrace. A great advantage is its frost resistance down to minus twenty-three degrees and complete resistance to common diseases and pests. Even beginner gardeners need not worry about growing it.
The aromatic green parsley leaves contain high amounts of vitamins A and C and have an absolutely indispensable place in the kitchen. In the bed, however, it also works great as a companion plant. You can plant it with a spacing of forty centimeters among roses, whose fragrance it is said to naturally support, or combine it with other vegetables; it does particularly well alongside radishes. In the first half of summer, during June and July, the plant creates discreet but charming umbels of tiny white flowers. These grow to a height of about thirty to fifty centimeters and have a very natural appearance in the garden. The flowering stems can easily be cut for a vase, where they act as excellent filler greenery that reliably lasts about a week. After flowering, the firm stems can also be used for drying in various floral arrangements.
