• Soil: Requires cooler, humus-rich, and well-draining soil that does not dry out. It does not like waterlogging, but cannot tolerate drought either.

Bleeding hearts are not extremely demanding on nutrients, but they appreciate quality soil.

• When: Best in early spring, when the first small leaves begin to sprout.
• With what: Ideal is matured compost spread around the plant or a complete organic fertilizer. Avoid fertilizers with too high a nitrogen content, which would encourage lush leaf growth at the expense of flowers.

Yes, growing in a container is possible, but it has its rules:

1. Container size: Must be large and deep enough (bleeding heart has massive roots).
2. Watering: Substrate dries out faster in a pot, so monitor moisture.
3. Winter: Do not leave the pot out in the frost without protection, the roots would freeze. Wrap the container in polystyrene or bury it in the ground in the garden.
