Řecký horský čaj je naprosto ideální rostlinou pro pěstování v nádobách a truhlících na slunných balkonech či terasách. Protože vám zašleme již zdravou a vzrostlou sazenici, stačí jí vybrat dostatečně prostorný květináč s odtokovými otvory. Na dno vždy vytvořte silnou drenážní vrstvu ze štěrku či keramzitu a jako zeminu použijte velmi propustný, písčitý a spíše chudý substrát. Výsadba do nádob perfektně řeší největší slabinu této jinak odolné trvalky, a tou je nesnášenlivost přemokření během zimních měsíců. Květináč jednoduše na podzim přesunete na chráněné, suché místo pod stříšku, kde rostlina bez problémů přezimuje.
Pokud se rozhodnete pro výsadbu přímo na záhon, vyhledejte v zahradě horké slunné místo, například skalku nebo suchou bylinkovou zídku. Při pěstování venku pamatujte na následující kroky:
- Půda musí být propustná, ideálně písčitá nebo kamenitá.
- Sázejte ve sponu 35 cm, aby se mezi plstnatými šedozelenými listy nedržela ranní rosa.
- Počáteční zálivku omezte jen na dobu než sazenice prokoření, dospělá rostlina miluje sucho.
- Vyhněte se hnojivům, která by způsobila vytáhnutí výhonů a ztrátu typické vůně.
Během sezóny vás rostlina odmění nejen nádhernou vůní, ale také pastelově žlutými květy, které v letních měsících doslova přitahují včely a čmeláky. Dorůstá do výšky 25 až 40 centimetrů a řez jejích kvetoucích lodyh je velmi žádoucí. Získáte tak výbornou surovinu pro přípravu lahodného čaje a podpoříte její vitalitu. Co se týče zdravotního stavu, hojník je opravdový nezmar. Vyhýbají se mu naprosto všichni škůdci i běžné choroby. Mrazuvzdornost dosahuje až -17 °C, takže pokud ho uchráníte před zimním mokrem, bude vaší zahradě dělat radost po mnoho let.
