Thanks to its strawberry-red flowers with irregular white edges, the Cabella tulip is a wonderful addition to any spring flower bed. For this undemanding perennial to thrive, find it a spot in full sun or partial shade in your garden. Humus-rich and well-drained soil is absolutely crucial for the healthy development of the bulbs. All bulbous plants generally dislike waterlogging, which very quickly leads to rot, so carefully ensure that rainwater does not stand in the bed. If you are not planting the bulbs immediately upon receipt, store them in a dry and cool place, preferably in a paper bag in a ventilated area.
The right time for planting in the ground occurs in the autumn months, specifically in September, October, or November. Place the bulbs in the prepared hole with the tip facing upward. A very simple gardening rule applies here for both depth and spacing: plant the bulbs at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters and maintain the exact same distance between individual plants. This ensures they will not crowd each other and will create a healthy, dense stand. The autumn planting date is essential, as the bulbs need natural winter cold to properly start up for spring flowering.
During the spring months, when the plants are actively growing and forming buds, give them regular, though moderate, watering. The Cabella variety grows into sturdy plants 40 to 50 centimeters tall that bloom during April and May. The full flowers are extremely suitable for cutting, so you can fully enjoy their beauty at home in a vase. In the garden, you will appreciate that their vibrant colors reliably attract bees. As soon as the flowers begin to fade, pinch them off so the plant does not unnecessarily exhaust itself by producing seeds. However, unconditionally leave the leaves in place until they have completely dried out. The tulip is extremely frost-resistant, can withstand temperatures down to -40 °C, so you can safely leave the bulbs in the soil over winter. They do not require digging up or any other special winter protection.
