The original species of avens grow in moister but well-drained meadows and light forest edges, which is why they thrive best here in sun or partial shade in humus-rich loamy soil. Avens are generally very undemanding plants, do not need any support, and effortlessly withstand frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. The Tempest Scarlet cultivar was bred in Scotland and stands out with the deep scarlet color of its semi-double, slightly ruffled flowers, which bloom on long branched stems from May to July. After a summer break, it will often delight you with another blooming in the autumn. We cut the stems for a vase when roughly a quarter to half of the flowers on the stem are open. Although it is more of a short-lived perennial, it will bring you a lot of joy in the flowerbed with its rich flowers and undemanding nature.

Lemon creeping thyme is a fragrant perennial that will instantly surprise you with its fresh citrus scent. The native species grow on sunny, dry rocky slopes, which is why it performs best here in full sun and well-drained, rather sandy soil. It forms dense, low cushions twenty to thirty centimeters high, which become covered in a profusion of tiny pink flowers from June to July. These provide a rich source of nectar, attracting bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators. You will receive an established seedling in a pot, ready to be planted directly into the border or a large patio container. Creeping thyme is low-maintenance, pest- and disease-free, and easy for beginners to look after. It survives frosts down to minus eighteen degrees, provided it is planted in a drier spot to avoid winter waterlogging.
