Actaea simplex

Bugbane is a beautiful, hardy, and long-lived perennial. Decorative not only in flower but also in leaf. In spring, it needs enough time to sprout into full beauty. Ideally, we therefore combine it with bulbous plants – snowdrops and daffodils. Black Negligee has strikingly dark brown-wine leaves. It is great for contrasting combinations in semi-shaded corners of the garden. It stands out with vigorous growth.

Anemones come from the same family as buttercups. With their elegant flowers on long slender stems, they can liven up and brighten late summer and autumn beds. They stand out against the darker background of shrub groups and will also be grateful for their partial shade. The Czech Perennial Association chose autumn Anemones as the perennial of the season for 2022. They last 7 days in a vase. Whirlwind is a historical variety bred in 1887 in the USA. It has a semi-double pure white flower, often with inner twisted petals, and compact, strictly upright growth. The flowers are very durable.

Earlier, they tend to wilt and the stems cannot hold the flower in an upright position. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Baptisia Decadence

Baptisia originates from North America, belongs to the legume family, and resembles the lupine in appearance. Unlike it, however, it does not suffer from fungal diseases and does not taste as good to slugs. Besides the blue flowers, the large pods are interesting, decorating the plant long after flowering. North American Indians used Baptisia roots to disinfect wounds and lower fever, and leaves to dye fabrics. Patience is most important with Baptisia; it takes some time to fully establish and create a massive root system adapted for surviving long periods of drought and fires. Then it is very long-lived.

Geranium pratense

A clump-forming species of hardy geranium. High upright stems with double flowers in a soft violet-blue color grow from a clump of deep green, deeply lobed leaves. In good conditions, it is a hardy and long-lived plant. After the first wave of flowering, it is recommended to cut it back and water it; it will regrow and set buds again. Despite the double flowers, this cultivar attracts plenty of bees and butterflies. Excellent resistance in drier conditions is also reported.

Epimedium grandiflorum

Původní druh roste v horských lesích východní Asie, což ji i v zahradě předurčuje k životu pod korunami stromů a keřů. Rostlina vyžaduje humózní, propustnou a stále mírně vlhkou půdu.

Květy lze využít i k řezu do menších jarních aranžmá, kde dodají kompozici lehkost. Helleborus orientalis

Hellebores are evergreen perennials that form slowly spreading clumps of leathery, dark green leaves. The stems usually bear four to five flowers. They bloom very early, as early as late winter and early spring. They are usable for vases only after conspicuous seed pods form in the center of the flower and the flower matures. Earlier, they tend to wilt and the stems cannot hold the flower in an upright position. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Double Ellen White is an almost pure white, double-flowered hellebore. The petals are slightly wavy and the bottom row of petals is lightly tinged with green.
