Ve volné přírodě roste ve světlých listnatých lesích a na okrajích křovin, což jasně napovídá o její obrovské přizpůsobivosti. Bez problémů zvládne růst na plném slunci, v polostínu i v hlubokém stínu pod stromy. Od května do července se nad listy objevují drobná květenství v hnědých, zelených a béžových odstínech. Rostlina se nehodí k řezu do vázy ani k sušení pro floristické účely, ale v zahradě odvede vynikající práci. Ostřice přetrhovaná je dodávána jako silná a dobře prokořeněná sazenice, která je okamžitě připravena k výsadbě na vaši zahradu. Tato mimořádně přizpůsobivá trvalka poroste téměř kdekoliv, což z ní dělá ideální volbu pro začátečníky. Můžete ji bez obav vysadit na horké plné slunce, do polostínu, ale překvapivě dobře se jí daří i v hlubokém chladném stínu pod korunami vzrostlých stromů. Nejlépe jí vyhovuje propustná hlinitá půda, která dokáže udržet přiměřenou vlhkost. Při výsadbě na záhon dodržujte spon 30 až 40 centimetrů mezi jednotlivými rostlinami, což znamená zhruba 6 až 9 sazenic na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí dostatek prostoru pro cirkulaci vzduchu a umožní listům vytvořit krásné a husté trsy.
Během sezóny vyžaduje ostřice pouze minimální péči. Zálivka by měla být pravidelná, ale mírná, aby půda zůstávala lehce vlhká, ovšem nikdy dlouhodobě přemokřená. Obrovskou výhodou je, že tato rostlina je zcela bez škůdců a netrpí žádnými běžnými chorobami, takže se vaše pěstování obejde bez jakýchkoliv chemických postřiků. Od května do července se nad zelenými listy objevují drobná květenství v jemných hnědých, zelených a béžových odstínech. Ačkoliv se tyto květy nehodí k řezu do vázy ani k sušení, na zahradě plní vynikající estetickou funkci. Skvěle fungují jako nenápadná obruba zahradních cestiček nebo jako přírodní výplňová zeleň mezi výrazně kvetoucími trvalkami.
S blížící se zimou vás ostřice potěší svým krásným zimním efektem. Její zelené listy si totiž udržují svůj tvar i v chladných měsících a pod pokrývkou sněhu či jinovatky vypadají zkrátka kouzelně. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná až do neuvěřitelných -28 °C, takže nevyžaduje vůbec žádnou zimní ochranu. Na jaře pak stačí trsy pouze jemně pročesat prsty a odstranit odumřelé či suché listy, případně provést lehký zpětný řez pro zvýšení vitality. Zákazníci se nás často ptají na možnost pěstování v nádobách. Tuto sazenici můžete naprosto bez problémů pěstovat i v květináči nebo truhlíku na balkoně. Dbejte jen na to, aby měla nádoba odtokové dírky a na dně dostatečnou drenážní vrstvu, která zabrání uhnívání kořenů.

Its main advantage is its striking grayish-green and dark green leaves, which, with sufficient moisture, remain evergreen all year round. During April and May, the moor grass blooms with interesting brown spikelets. Over time, these flowers naturally fade into soft beige tones, and when dried, they are perfectly suited as a delicate addition to small dry arrangements. From May onwards, long thin stalks sprout from its dense green clumps, carrying delicate spikelets in the shape of small hearts swaying on them. They are colored in inconspicuous green and brown tones. It is their constant movement and rustling at the slightest breeze that gives the flower beds extraordinary dynamics and lightness. This short-lived perennial, growing to a height of around half a meter, is perfectly suited to complement colorful steppe plantings, where it creates a soft filler between more prominently flowering species. It will also find its use among beginner growers, as it does not suffer from diseases or pests and handles strong frosts without problems. The airy inflorescences of quaking grass are perfect for cutting into summer bouquets and for drying for various floristry purposes. After blooming, roughly at the end of summer, it is good to trim the clumps, which will encourage their fresh appearance.
