Phlox, known as 'plamenka' in Czech, is originally a native perennial from the moister meadows and forest edges of North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the nineteenth century. It is a classic garden perennial that brings a romantic mood and abundant floods of flowers to summer beds. The approximately one meter tall straight stems are adorned with deep green leaves and bear dense inflorescences on top from July to August. At the same time, the whole plant smells very pleasantly, which acts as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies from the wide surroundings.
Although phlox is very easy to grow and even complete beginners can manage the care, it pays to pay attention to the correct choice of location. We send customers already mature seedlings in a pot, which you can easily transplant directly into the garden. Here, phlox thrives best in a sunny to semi-shady location with loamy, humous, and well-drained soil. It is ideal to keep a spacing of about fifty centimeters when planting so that each clump has enough space to grow. They like plenty of moisture, and stable humidity is important to them. During severe drought, they can react sensitively and be more susceptible to powdery mildew, so they will welcome more abundant watering in the hot summer. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about pests; they avoid it. As for winter, you can throw your worries behind you, because the plant can handle severe frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees.
In ornamental beds, phlox stands out both individually in larger groups and in combination with other summer perennials or shorter ornamental grasses. Furthermore, it is an absolutely ideal plant for cutting into vases. It will lend your home not only beautiful pastel colors but also its unmistakable sweet scent. We recommend harvesting stems for bouquets when approximately half of the flowers in the main inflorescence are already fully open. If you provide them with clean water, they will reward you with extraordinary durability and will easily last ten days in a vase.
The Franz Schubert variety attracts with purple to pink flowers that fade towards the edges. The pastel color stands out in the vicinity of darker-colored plants.

Sazenice doporučujeme vysazovat na plné slunce, protože krásnoočko miluje horká a slunná místa. Půda by měla být hlinitá, humózní a především opravdu dobře propustná. Výborná drenáž půdy je klíčová zejména proto, abyste spolehlivě předešli nebezpečnému zimnímu přemokření kořenů, na které je tato rostlina velmi citlivá. Pokud máte těžší zeminu, přidejte trochu písku. Sazenice sázejte na vzdálenost 30 až 40 centimetrů od sebe, což v praxi odpovídá zhruba 7 až 9 rostlinám na jeden metr čtvereční. Získáte tak úhledně zapojený porost, ve kterém bude bez problémů cirkulovat čerstvý vzduch.
Po jarní nebo letní výsadbě sazenice pravidelně a pečlivě zalévejte, dokud spolehlivě nezakoření na novém stanovišti. Jakmile se na záhonu jednou provždy uchytí, velmi dobře snáší i sušší podmínky a bohatou zálivku vyžadují jen během dlouhotrvajících letních veder. Přestože ji řadíme mezi krátkověké trvalky, správnou péčí prodloužíte její životnost.

Během hlavního léta maximálně podpoříte bohaté a neúnavné kvetení tím, že budete průběžně a pečlivě odstraňovat všechny odkvetlé květy. Rostlina tak nebude investovat energii do tvorby semen a rozkvete o to více. Krásnoočko se také skvěle hodí pro oblíbené pěstování v nádobách a truhlících na balkonech či terasách. Zde je ovšem potřeba neustále myslet na pravidelnější zálivku a použití kvalitního pěstebního substrátu, který je vhodné smíchat s pískem pro ještě lepší odtok vody. Samotná pěstební nádoba musí mít na svém dně dostatečně velké a průchodné odtokové otvory. Krásnoočka pěstovaná v květináčích na zimu vždy preventivně schováme v bezmrazé a světlé místnosti, kde je zaléváme už jen velmi opatrně.
Rostlina přirozeně vydrží teploty padající až k -18 °C, ale zimní vlhkost v půdě jí může fatálně ublížit. Pokud se rozhodnete pro celkové seříznutí nadzemní části rostliny, udělejte to prosím nejpozději na samotném začátku podzimu, aby do nástupu zimy stihla ještě bezpečně zregenerovat a zdárně tak přezimovala do další sezóny. Na volném záhonu pak těmto krásným rostlinám navíc velmi pomůže preventivní zimní přikrytí smrkovým chvojím.
