The Mai Tai cultivar, which was bred in the USA in 2005, is characterized by its amazing color variability. It blooms in peach tones with a pink tint and gradually transitions into more muted pastel, salmon, and apricot shades. Blooming avens is a huge attraction for insects, especially for butterflies. We cut the stems for a vase when roughly a quarter to half of the flowers on the stem are open. They will stay beautiful in water for approximately seven days and add lightness and movement to an arrangement. However, its flowers are not suitable for drying. Although it is more of a short-lived perennial, it will bring you a lot of joy in the flowerbed with its rich flowers and undemanding nature.

Pěstování orlíčku Heidi hravě zvládne opravdu každý začátečník i bez předchozích zkušeností se zahradničením. Naše sazenice jsou plně připravené k okamžité výsadbě na vybrané místo. Doporučujeme výsadbu do hlinité, mírně vlhké a především humózní půdy. Vybírejte taková stanoviště, která nabízejí polostín až slunce. Při plošném sázení do větších skupin nezapomeňte dodržovat rozestup zhruba 30 cm mezi jednotlivými sazenicemi. Rostliny tak budou mít dostatek prostoru pro zdravý růst a vzduch mezi nimi bude moci volně proudit. To velmi efektivně a přirozeně pomáhá udržet rostlinu vitální a bez houbových infekcí.
Během celé vegetační sezóny ocení orlíček pravidelnou, avšak nijak přehnanou zálivku. Zvláště v horkých a suchých letních dnech proto dbejte na to, aby zemina kolem rostlin nebyla dlouhodobě vyschlá. Právě vytrvalé sucho a špatná cirkulace vzduchu totiž mohou způsobit nežádoucí výskyt padlí. Kdyby se tento charakteristický bílý povlak na listech přece jen objevil, jednoduše napadené části rostliny odstřihněte zahradnickými nůžkami. Zvláštní péči proti nejrůznějším škůdcům naštěstí vůbec řešit nemusíte, orlíčky na škůdce netrpí. Podobně nenáročné je pěstování i z hlediska živin, jedna menší jarní dávka vyzrálého kompostu rostlině pro bohaté kvetení bohatě postačí.
V základu se jedná o krátkověkou trvalku, která si ale své místo ve vašem trvalkovém záhonu dokáže velmi spolehlivě pojistit. Orlíček dobře poroste na slunci i v polostínu v běžné zahradní zemině. Pokud chcete zabránit samovýsevu, ostříhejte květy hned po odkvětu. Můžete si je přitom rovnou odnést domů, protože ve váze vydrží krásně svěží celých sedm dní. Jste-li naopak zastánci divokého zahradničení, nechte své orlíčky volně vysemenit. Na podzim a zimu rostlina přirozeně zatahuje do země a nepotřebuje vůbec žádné zakrývání chvojím nebo listím. Hravě totiž snese teploty klesající až k extrémním -34 °C.
Své oblíbené orlíčky můžete velmi snadno pěstovat i v okrasných květináčích a truhlících umístěných na terase. Velmi důležité je pro tento účel vybrat hlubší nádobu se spodním odtokem, protože kořenový systém vyžaduje prostor a nesnáší trvalé přemokření. Použijte standardní kvalitní zahradnický substrát a oproti běžnému záhonu nezapomeňte na pravidelnější zalévání. Vzhledem k tomu, že je rostlina řazena mezi jedovaté druhy, umístěte osázené nádoby raději mimo bezprostřední dosah domácích mazlíčků a malých dětí.
