Cephalaria gigantea

An impressive solitary perennial with a massive, sparsely branched growth type. It produces light yellow-green flowers on long stems resembling Scabious flowers. The contrast between the relatively massive mass of leaves and the airy wire-like stems with small flower heads is very effective. It lasts about 5 days in a vase. Spent inflorescences are also interesting in beds and bouquets.

These snowberries are specially bred for floristry purposes. Their shoots are upright, sufficiently long and strong, and carry a rich abundance of flowers and fruits. Besides using them in bouquets, we can plant them like other snowberries in shrub groups, as lower hedges, or in mixed beds with taller perennials and grasses. The flowers are good pasture for bees. The fruits are poisonous. They bloom later in late spring and form fruits in late summer.

Anemone tomentosa

Anemones come from the same family as buttercups. With their elegant flowers on long slender stems, they can enliven and brighten late summer and autumn beds. They stand out against the darker background of shrub groups and will be grateful for their partial shade. The Czech Perennial Association chose autumn Anemones as the perennial of the 2022 season. They last 7 days in a vase. Anemone 'Robustissima' is a proven, vital, vigorous, and richly flowering species bred in 1900. It forms strong clumps and blooms with light pink, large flowers in late summer to early autumn. 'Robustissima' is, as the name suggests, one of the most resilient autumn Anemones and spreads very well and vigorously.

Healthy and long-blooming, the pink flower is slightly larger than that of Aster ericoides. Lasts 7 to 10 days in a vase.

Aster novi-belgii

It originates from the northeastern USA and southern Canada, where it grows in damp areas, scrublands, and on coasts. It crosses very willingly with other aster species, resulting in an inexhaustible number of varieties. Unlike New England asters, they do not close their flowers at night or during unfavorable weather, making them perfect for cutting into vases. We must keep in mind their susceptibility to mildew, which can be prevented by choosing a suitable location. They last 7 to 10 days in a vase. Brigitte has light, pastel lavender, semi-double flowers with a yellow center. They contrast beautifully with the dark foliage.

Persicaria amplexicaulis

This species of knotweed originates from the Himalayas and China, where it grows in scrub and on mountain meadows along streams at high altitudes. It forms sturdy clumps of fresh green, pointed leaves. Above them, upright, narrow, candle-like inflorescences composed of individual tiny flowers appear from summer onwards. It is a very popular perennial, recently bred into many cultivars and used in Western Europe in larger park and garden landscaping. It excels with a long flowering period in late summer and good durability in a vase. It was voted Perennial of the Season 2023 by the Czech Perennials Association. The Fat Domino cultivar was bred in Belgium and has dark red flowers.

Garden cultivars of goldenrod are attractive and low-maintenance perennials bred from native North American wild species. Unlike them, however, they are not invasive and do not spread uncontrollably in flower beds. They are specially bred for cutting, which is why they are relatively tall, grow upright, and bloom profusely. For bouquets, we can harvest both freshly bloomed plants and stems with buds. They last 10 days in a vase. In flower beds, they are an essential food source for bees. Moonlight Glory is our lightest milky-white goldenrod. Its elegant shade combines well with other perennials.

A classic perennial of Czech gardens, although originally from North America. In nature, it grows in thickets among taller plants and naturally loses leaves on the lower part of the stem very early. Its bred cultivars also retain this characteristic. Therefore, we combine it in beds with suitable perennials that cover the lower parts well. The whole plant is roughly hairy. It is a hardy and long-lived perennial and resists powdery mildew well. Harrington’s Pink is a variety found in the wild; it has 2.5 to 3.5 cm large flowers of bright pink color with a yellow center. Helleborus orientalis

Hellebores are evergreen perennials that form slowly spreading clumps of leathery, dark green leaves. The stems usually bear four to five flowers. They bloom very early, as early as late winter and early spring. They are usable for vases only after conspicuous seed pods form in the center of the flower and the flower matures. Earlier, they tend to wilt and the stems cannot hold the flower in an upright position. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Double Ellen White is an almost pure white, double-flowered hellebore. The petals are slightly wavy and the bottom row of petals is lightly tinged with green.

Salvia nemorosa

This species of sage originates from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms abundantly flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, it is planted as a companion to roses due to the matching flowering time. However, it will look equally good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It is an excellent food source for bees. It lasts 7 days in a vase. Schneehügel blooms white.

Sanguisorba officinalis

Great burnet is a native meadow plant that naturally grows on damp meadows. In mid-summer, branching stems with tiny dark red flower heads rise from a clump of pinnate leaves. They create unusual structural and color accents in flower beds and bouquets. Great burnet is a vital plant for the Scarce Large Blue butterfly. In the garden, it fits well into naturalistic plantings with grasses and other perennials. It adds lightness and airiness to bouquets. It lasts 7 to 10 days in a vase.
