Sadec Snowball je mimořádně spolehlivá trvalka, jejíž pěstování hravě zvládnou i naprostí začátečníci. V zahradě poroste nejlépe na vlhčích místech s dostatkem slunce. Pokud máte v zahradě místa s těžší jílovitou nebo hlinitou půdou, kde se jiným rostlinám kvůli zadržování vody nedaří, bude tam sadec maximálně spokojený. Ideální je humózní půda. Při sázení dodržujte doporučený spon 80 cm (tedy 1 až 2 rostliny na metr čtvereční), aby měl každý trs kolem sebe prostor pro dobré proudění vzduchu.
Hlavním bodem péče je u této rostliny pravidelná a vydatná zálivka. Sadec má vysoké nároky na vláhu, v horkém létě bude navíc ráda za odpolední stín stromů nebo vyšších keřů, které zabrání rychlému vysychání půdy. S hnojením si nemusíte dělat starosti, na jaře stačí k trsu přihrnout kompost. Obrovským bonusem je, že je to rostlina zcela bez chorob a bez škůdců. Ačkoli dorůstá do výšky 120 až 140 centimetrů, tvoří velmi stabilní a robustní stonky, takže nepotřebuje oporu ani na větrném stanovišti. Připomínáme jen, že listy a stonky jsou jedovaté, proto je dobré po přesazování či stříhání důkladně omýt ruce.
Pro kompaktnější růst můžeme stonky sadce na přelomu května a června o třetinu až polovinu zakrátit. Tento jarní řez zajistí, že se trs více zahustí a pevně rozvětví. Následná krémová květenství vykvétají od července do začátku podzimu, nádherně voní a na zahradu přitahují nespočet motýlů a včel. Díky mimořádné mrazuvzdornosti (až do -34 °C) je přezimování naprosto bez starostí a rostlina nevyžaduje žádné zakrývání. Suché květy nechte přes zimu stát na záhoně pro jejich zimní efekt a celou odumřelou nadzemní část seřízněte až na začátku jara před novým rašením.
Lze pěstovat sadec i na terase v květináči? Ano, ale je k tomu potřeba přistupovat s rozmyslem. Rostlina vyžaduje obrovský objem zeminy, proto musíte vybrat masivní nádobu, která se pod její výškou nepřevrátí. Zemina v nádobě nesmí nikdy úplně vyschnout, což znamená nutnost každodenního zalévání. Ve volné půdě je sadec mnohem samostatnější. Jedná se o dlouhověkou trvalku, která se po zahradě sama nepřesévá, ale zůstává věrně na svém místě, odkud vám bude poskytovat úžasný materiál pro čerstvé i sušené kytice.
