Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Krvavec 'Alba' je impozantní trvalka, která do vaší zahrady vnese vertikální strukturu a vzdušnost. Výběr správného stanoviště je pro tuto rostlinu klíčový. Vyhledává slunná místa, ale velmi dobře prosperuje i v polostínu. Co se týče půdy, krvavec není vybíravý, ale má své preference. Nejlépe se mu daří v humózní, hlinité až jílovité půdě, která dokáže udržet vláhu. Naopak vyloženě suché a písčité podloží mu nesvědčí – rostlina by zde strádala suchem a mohla by být náchylnější k padlí.
Během výsadby dbejte na dostatečný prostor. Vzhledem k tomu, že rostlina v dospělosti dorůstá výšky 120 až 180 cm, doporučujeme zachovat spon výsadby alespoň 50 cm. To zajistí dobrou cirkulaci vzduchu kolem listů, což je přirozená prevence proti chorobám. Sazenici zasaďte tak hluboko, jak rostla v kontejneru, a po výsadbě ji důkladně zalijte. Vláha je pro tento druh zásadní, proto v horkých letních dnech nezapomínejte na pravidelnou zálivku. Pokud by rostlina vlivem sucha shodila listy nebo nevypadala svěže, nebojte se ji během sezóny hluboce seříznout. Velmi ochotně a rychle znovu obrazí svěžími zelenými listy.
Tato trvalka je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -34 °C (zóna 4a), takže nevyžaduje žádnou speciální zimní ochranu. Suchá květenství můžete ponechat na záhoně i přes zimu. Řez se provádí až brzy na jaře, kdy odstraníte všechny odumřelé části těsně nad zemí, aby uvolnily místo novým výhonům. Hnojení není nutné přehánět; stačí na jaře zapravit do půdy vyzrálý kompost.
Pokud zvažujete pěstování v nádobě, mějte na paměti, že jde o velmi vysokou rostlinu a pěstování v truhlíku není příliš vhodné. Pokud se pro něj přece jen rozhodnete, je třeba zajistit, aby substrát v nádobě nikdy zcela nevyschl.
