Kromě modrých květů jsou na ní zajímavé právě velké lusky, které rostlinu zdobí ještě dlouho po odkvětu. Severoameričtí indiáni používali kořeny baptisie k dezinfekci ran a na snížení horečky a listy k barvení látek. U baptisie je nejdůležitější trpělivost, trvá jí nějaký čas, než se plně ujme a vytvoří mohutný kořenový systém uzpůsobený pro přežití dlouhých období sucha i požárů. Pak je velmi dlouhověká.
