Žluťucha orlíčkolistá je okouzlující trvalka, která v zahradě působí jako nadýchaný barevný mrak. Její druhové jméno odkazuje na nápadnou podobnost listů s orlíčky, jsou jemně dělené, šedozelené a velmi dekorativní ještě před samotným vykvetením. Původně tento druh roste ve vlhčích světlých lesích a na loukách Evropy a Asie, proto mu bude i u vás v zahradě svědčit humózní a nevysychavá půda na slunci nebo v polostínu. V červnu a červenci se rostlina zahalí do závoje drobných kvítků, které tvoří především nápadné svazky tyčinek bez korunních plátků. Tato chundelatá květenství v odstínech lila a světle růžové lákají množství opylovačů a včel. Díky své výšce, která může přesáhnout i jeden metr, se skvěle hodí do pozadí trvalkových záhonů, kterým dodává lehkost, výšku a vzdušnost. Květy jsou vynikající i k řezu do vázy, kde vydrží svěží a fungují jako jemný výplňový materiál. Je to dlouhověká a zcela mrazuvzdorná rostlina vhodná i pro začátečníky, jen je třeba mít na paměti, že je jedovatá.

Výběr stanoviště a příprava půdy Žluťucha orlíčkolistá je původně rostlinou světlých lesů a vlhkých luk, což nám dává jasný návod, kam ji v zahradě umístit. Nejlépe se jí bude dařit v polostínu, kde vynikne její lehkost a vzdušnost. Snese i plné slunce, ale pouze za předpokladu, že bude mít neustále dostatek vláhy. Půda by měla být kyprá, hlinitá a bohatá na humus, který pomáhá zadržovat vodu. Tato trvalka nesnáší sucho, proto je klíčové, aby zemina byla tzv. nevysychavá, ale zároveň propustná, aby kořeny nestály v bahně. Před výsadbou doporučujeme do půdy zapracovat vyzrálý kompost, který dodá živiny a zlepší strukturu půdy.
Výsadba a péče Jelikož obdržíte již zapěstovanou sazenici, můžete ji vysazovat v průběhu celé vegetační sezóny, dokud není půda zamrzlá. Rostliny sázejte do sponu 40–50 cm (přibližně 4–6 rostlin na m²), aby měly dostatek prostoru pro svůj bujný růst a zároveň vytvořily zapojený porost. Po výsadbě je nutná důkladná zálivka. Během sezóny, zejména v horkých letních dnech, dbejte na pravidelné zalévání – půda by neměla nikdy zcela vyschnout. Na jaře rostlinu potěšíte přihnojením organickým hnojivem nebo kompostem. Velkou výhodou této žluťuchy je, že netrpí na škůdce ani choroby, takže se nemusíte obávat náročných postřiků.
Zimování a údržba Žluťucha je zcela mrazuvzdorná trvalka (až do -34 °C) a v našich podmínkách přezimuje bez problémů, takže nepotřebuje žádnou speciální zimní ochranu. Jedná se o dlouhověkou rostlinu, která na jednom místě vydrží mnoho let. Po odkvětu v červenci můžete odkvetlá květenství ostříhat, čímž podpoříte tvorbu nových, svěžích listů a rostlina bude vypadat úhledně až do podzimu. Celkové odstranění suchých nadzemních částí proveďte ideálně až brzy na jaře před rašením nových výhonů. I když dorůstá výšky až 150 cm, obvykle nepotřebuje oporu, její stonky jsou pevné. Mějte však na paměti, že rostlina je jedovatá, proto při manipulaci používejte raději rukavice a vysazujte ji mimo dosah malých dětí.
Pěstování v nádobách Ačkoliv je žluťucha primárně záhonová rostlina, její pěstování v nádobě je možné, pokud jí zajistíte adekvátní podmínky. Vzhledem k její výšce zvolte dostatečně velký a těžký květináč, aby se rostlina ve větru nepřevrátila. Zásadní je v nádobě hlídat zálivku – substrát v květináči vysychá mnohem rychleji než ve volné půdě a žluťucha na sucho reaguje velmi citlivě svěšením listů. Do nádoby použijte kvalitní zahradnický substrát smíchaný s kompostem a na dno nezapomeňte dát drenážní vrstvu. V nádobách vypadá nádherně jako solitéra nebo v kombinaci s nižšími stínomilnými trvalkami, které zakryjí povrch půdy a pomohou udržet vlhkost.
