Agastache Danish Delight

Most of the hybrids available here originate from plants native to North America and Mexico. They are characterized by a delicate overall appearance. An elegant plant with small, fragrant leaves continuously blooms throughout the summer with many tiny flowers, attracting butterflies and bees.

Nenáročná a skromná trvalka, která vykvétá velkým množstvím drobných kvítků. Kvete rekordně dlouhou dobu po celé pozdní léto a podzim. Tvoří menší kompaktní vzdušné keříky, které vydávají mátově kořenitou vůní. Květy podobné tymiánu lákají včely, čmeláky a motýly. Dobře bude vypadat mezi růžemi i v přírodně pojatých stepních záhonech třeba s nižšími trávami. 

Tento druh šalvěje pochází původně ze stepních oblastí střední a východní Evropy. Tvoří bohatě kvetoucí malé trsy s rovnými vzpřímenými stonky. V záhonech nejlépe vypadá ve skupinách. Tradičně se vysazuje, pro shodnou dobu kvetení, jako doprovod růží. Stejně dobře bude ale vypadat i ve smíšených suchomilných stepních výsadbách s trávami. Je výbornou pastvou pro včely. Ve váze vydrží 7 dní. Schwellenburg je velmi zvláštní odrůda s bohatě větveným květenstvím. Kvítky mají fialové listeny a vínový kalich.

Chrastavec makedonský je bohatě a dlouze kvetoucí nenáročná trvalka. Jeho divoká forma pochází z Balkánu, kde roste na loukách a v křovinách. V záhonech okouzluje štíhlými vysokými stonky, které nesou pastelově vínové a růžové květy. Hodí se do přírodně pojatých slunných až polostinných záhonů a do lučních kytic. 

Small shrubs with fragrant grey-silver shoots and leaves. The strikingly colored flowers are clustered in dense panicles. In the garden, they can evoke a summer atmosphere long into autumn. They tolerate drought very well and love warmth. They fit perfectly into Mediterranean-inspired plantings. Popular with bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Pagoda Dark pink is an interspecific hybrid valued by florists for its perfectly long and straight stems, with a striking rich pink flower color.

An undemanding and modest perennial that blooms with a large number of small flowers. It flowers for a record long time throughout late summer and autumn. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that emit a minty, spicy fragrance. The thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses and in naturalistic steppe beds, perhaps with lower grasses. This Marjoram is generally taller. Unlike other Marjorams with felted leaves, it stands out for its record-breaking flowering duration, stiff and shiny leaves, and also a larger number of flowers that do not form seeds and are therefore maximally durable. It is sometimes sold under the cultivar name 'Triumphator'.

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms richly flowering small clumps with straight, upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, it is planted as an accompaniment to roses for its coincident flowering time. However, it will also look great in mixed xerophilous steppe plantings with grasses. It is an excellent food source for bees. It lasts 7 days in a vase. Amethyst is an elegant variety with long stems and an unusual pink flower color for sage.

A perennial verbena species native to North America. In its natural habitats, it grows in wet meadows, pastures, and along water bodies. It is a great attractant for bees and butterflies. Although not very long-lived, it can maintain itself through self-seeding in good conditions. It blooms gradually for a long time with many small flowers. The spent inflorescences are also effective, both in flower beds and in bouquets. The cultivar Pink Spires stands out with its firm, upright habit and delicate pink flowers.

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for natural-style gardens and, the smaller varieties, for window boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, due to the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be present in the highest degree in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta probably comes from the ancient Etruscan city of Nepet - Nepi in today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. The faassenii group is characterized by vigorous upright growth, delicate foliage, and long stems suitable for cutting. 'Walker's Low' got its name from the Irish estate where it was bred in 1970. It has the most intense blue-purple flower coloration.

Brunnera is a long-lived perennial native to the mountain meadows and forests of the Caucasus. It is interesting not only when in bloom. The leaves are large, heart-shaped, and light green. They form a contrasting background for the delicate and small flowers that appear above the carpet of leaves from April to May. It sprouts early and retracts late, making it a valuable groundcover perennial.

The Twizzle series includes several color varieties, all characterized by upright growth and an overall more delicate appearance of both stems and flowers. The flowers are about 3–4 cm in size. They last 5–7 days in a vase.

This South American Verbena species is often grown as an annual here, but in mild winters, it can survive and self-seed. Its sturdy, airy stems beautifully soften perennial beds and add a special touch with their purple color. It perfectly complements steppe plantings with grasses and rose beds.

Catananche is a medium-tall, short-lived perennial. It originates from the Mediterranean and is therefore suitable for areas with milder winters. Attractive blue flowers that resemble chicory. The undeveloped flower buds are also beautiful, as are the silvery faded inflorescences. Also suitable for drying. Fresh, they last 7 days in a vase.

Gaura is a clump-forming perennial native to Texas and Louisiana. Here, it tends to behave more like a short-lived perennial. It combines beautifully with grasses, adding lightness and airiness to flower beds. It's an excellent food source for insects. Tiny, butterfly-like flowers bloom tirelessly from June until the first frosts. For bouquets, harvest as soon as the first two or three flowers open on the stem. Summer Breeze has an abundant display of white and pink flowers. It is robust and resilient.

Agastache rugosa originates from regions of China and Japan. Its serrated leaves resemble nettle leaves, but they don't sting and release a minty-anise scent when crushed between the fingers. It is a stable, upright growing plant. Hardy and robust, it successfully tolerates our winters. Interesting for cutting even after flowering. Lasts 7 days in a vase. Black Adder is a sturdy cultivar with a strikingly contrasting dark color and a very long flowering period.

Baptisia originates from North America, belongs to the pea family (Fabaceae), and visually resembles lupine – the bigleaf lupine. However, unlike lupine, it doesn't suffer from fungal diseases and isn't as appealing to slugs. In addition to its blue flowers, the large pods that adorn the plant long after flowering are also interesting. North American Indians used baptisia roots to disinfect wounds and reduce fever, and the leaves for dyeing fabrics. Patience is key with baptisia; it takes some time to fully establish and develop a robust root system adapted to survive long periods of drought and fires. Then it is very long-lived. It was chosen as the Perennial of the Year for the 2019 season.

A beautiful, though rather short-lived, perennial, ideal for steppe areas alongside delicate xerophilous grasses and perennials. For bouquets, harvest when approximately half of the flowers in the inflorescence are open. It lasts about 5 days in a vase. An exceptional cultivar with flowers in peach and apricot tones, transitioning to an elegant old rose as they fade.

A perennial of delicate appearance with upright thin stems. It blooms repeatedly throughout the summer until autumn. Its flowers are small, delicate, and light salmon-pink. The leaves are also delicate, linear. Lasts 14 days in a vase.

Hyssop, similar to lavender, is classified as a low woody subshrub. It can be used in similar types of plantings, with roses or in gravel beds of a steppe character. It also has culinary and medicinal uses. A great attraction for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Sweet pink flower color.

A native wild perennial that can be found in wet meadows, shallow waters, or marshy edges of water bodies. In autumn, the leaves turn orange-red. Blush is a shorter cultivar among the loosestrifes. The flowers are pure light pink, combining well with other perennials.

Avens are charming spring perennials with adorable cup-shaped flowers in warm color tones. The flowers grow on long, branched stems. The petals are often ruffled, and the flowers are semi-double. Their clump-forming foliage is also interesting, eventually creating good ground cover. Flowering avens are a great attraction for insects, especially butterflies. For bouquets, harvest when a quarter or half of the flowers on the stem have opened. They last 7 days in a vase. Geum rivale is a native perennial. It naturally grows on stream banks and in moist meadows. Its flowers are yellowish with a pink hue, and the calyx is purplish.

A lesser-known species of yarrow has dark green, shiny, serrated-lobed leaves that remain attractive throughout the growing season, with sweetly pink flowers that are larger than those of common yarrow. Lasts 10 days in a vase.

Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large, cup-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color and "burst open." Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. They then last 4 days in a vase. The noticeably fuzzy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to regain strength. Some leaves sprout again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials nearby that, on the contrary, sprout later and can draw attention during the poppy's dormant period. Coral Reef is a variety with salmon-pink flowers and black spots at the base of the petals.

A valuable garden and medicinal perennial, native to North America. It blooms in summer with dark purplish-pink flowers. The spiky flower heads are an irresistible magnet for butterflies. Lasts 7–10 days in a vase. After the petals are picked, the stems with the central heads can be dried or used in fresh bouquets as an interesting element. Rubinstern is very similar to the Magnus cultivar; the petals are darker and firmer. As they fade, they gradually lighten and bend downwards.
