Cultivation
For the successful establishment of this imposing perennial, choose a location where it will have plenty of sunlight, or light partial shade. Burnet (Sanguisorba) Arnhem is originally a meadow plant that naturally seeks out moister places, so it will thrive best in loamy to clayey soil that can hold water well. Unlike many other perennials, it does not mind even heavier soils, as long as they are not permanently waterlogged. Because it grows to an impressive height of 180 to 200 cm, it is advisable to think about sufficient space around it. When planting, maintain a spacing of approximately 50 cm, which corresponds to roughly 4 to 5 plants per square meter. Plant the seedlings at ground level, press the soil well around the root ball, and water thoroughly immediately after planting so the soil connects with the roots. Although the plant is tall, its stems are surprisingly strong and in most cases do not require support unless the location is exposed to extreme wind.
Care during the growing season is relatively undemanding for this cultivar and can be handled even by a complete beginner. The key factor is moisture; if the plant were to stand in overly dry or sandy soil, it could suffer from stress and be more susceptible to powdery mildew. In such a case, it helps to cut the plant back radically; it then usually sprouts again with healthy, fresh green leaves. Regular watering is necessary especially on hot summer days when the soil dries out quickly. Fertilizing is not strictly necessary if the soil is reasonably fertile, but a spring addition of compost will encourage vigorous growth and rich flowering. The flowers are suitable for cutting into vases, where they last more than a week, and they can also be dried. If you do not cut off the faded inflorescences, they will create a beautiful winter effect in the garden when rime catches on the dark heads.
In terms of overwintering, the 'Arnhem' burnet is extremely hardy, tolerating frosts down to -34 °C (zone 4a), so it requires no special winter protection in our conditions. We recommend leaving the old stems on the flower bed throughout the entire winter, not only for the aesthetic effect but also as natural protection for the root collar. Cut the dry above-ground part only in early spring, just above the ground, before the new small leaves sprout. As for growing in containers, given its height of two meters, this plant is not ideal for regular window boxes or small pots. If you still want to have it on the terrace, choose a very large and heavy container that will provide stability against the wind and retain enough moisture, because the substrate in a pot dries out much faster than in open soil. The plant does not suffer from pests or diseases, making it a trouble-free dominant feature of the garden.

The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.

Russian Sage
Russian sage reliably brings a touch of sunny steppes into the garden and places almost no demands on care. These sparsely branched subshrubs originally come from harsh, rocky areas from Afghanistan to Tibet, where they grow on open sun-drenched plains. Thanks to its origin, it delights in full sun and poor, well-drained sandy soil with minimal moisture. You will receive from us a well-rooted seedling in a pot, which just needs to be transplanted straight to the chosen spot in the flower bed. It does not need support, is avoided by common pests and diseases, and will survive frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. It grows up to one hundred and twenty centimeters and forms striking white felted shoots with silvery grey aromatic leaves. From July to October, it blooms with tiny blue-purple flowers that act as a lure for bees and butterflies and are even edible. Russian sage stands out next to drought-tolerant perennials. The flowers are suitable for cutting and drying for winter arrangements. Moreover, the silvery stems will ensure a beautiful winter effect in the flower bed.

Gaura Siskiyou Pink is a charming perennial that brings lightness and airiness to the garden. Its original native area is in the warm regions of Texas and Louisiana, which is why it thrives in full sun and well-drained sandy soil. It grows in clumps and from June until the autumn frosts produces tiny raspberry-pink flowers that resemble fluttering butterflies. An interesting detail of this variety is the green leaves with a bronze tint and red spots. It is an absolutely undemanding plant, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and even beginners can handle its care. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant directly into the flowerbed. The Goldsturm cultivar grows to a height of about seventy centimeters and does not need support. From August to October, it produces a flood of golden-yellow flowers with distinctly dark centers. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that release a minty-spicy scent. The thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses as well as in naturalistic steppe beds, perhaps with lower grasses. This calamint is generally more vigorous. It differs from other calamints with felted leaves by its record flowering length, stiff and shiny leaves, and also a larger number of flowers that do not form seeds and are therefore maximally durable.
