Pincushion flower 'Pink Mist' brings lightness and delicate beauty to the garden. The original species grows on dry and sunny meadows or rocky slopes, so it will also appreciate full sun and well-drained loamy soil at your place. Compared to the Caucasian pincushion flowers, it is smaller, growing only to thirty to forty centimeters. However, it stands out with its endurance, as it blooms almost continuously from June to October, especially when you continuously remove the faded inflorescences. The light pink to lilac flowers are eagerly visited by bees and butterflies. In a flower bed, it looks great alongside shorter grasses and other sun-loving perennials. It is a short-lived plant, which, however, readily self-seeds in the right place. The flowers on sturdy stems are excellent for cutting into fresh summer bouquets, but they are not very suitable for drying. The petals are also edible, and you can use them to decorate desserts, for example. You will receive a strong seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant to a permanent location, where it will easily handle even stronger frosts.

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for naturalistic gardens, and lower species also for boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be present in the highest amount in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta likely comes from the name of the ancient Etruscan city Nepet - Nepi in the territory of today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Hlaváč Pink Mist potřebuje místo na plném slunci s dobře propustnou půdou. Ideální je hlinitá zemina, ale výborně se hodí i do štěrkových záhonů, které napodobují jeho přirozené kamenité prostředí. Sazenice sázejte na vzdálenost zhruba 30 centimetrů od sebe, což odpovídá devíti až dvanácti rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Tento spon zajistí dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu. Výsadbu doporučujeme provádět na jaře nebo začátkem podzimu, aby rostlina stihla dobře zakořenit. Pokud nemáte zahradu, nezoufejte, tento kompaktní druh dorůstající výšky jen 30 až 40 centimetrů je skvělý i pro pěstování v nádobách.
Během vegetační sezóny vyžaduje hlaváč jen mírnou zálivku. Zvládne i sušší období, ale pro bohaté kvetení je lepší udržovat půdu mírně vlhkou, nikoliv však přemokřenou. Přihnojování není vyloženě nutné, v chudších půdách ale můžete na jaře přidat trochu uzrálého kompostu pro podporu růstu. To nejdůležitější pro úspěšné pěstování spočívá v průběžném odstraňování odkvetlých květů. Pravidelný řez uschlých stonků zabrání vysilování rostliny a podpoří neustálé nasazování nových poupat od června až do října. Veškerá péče se navíc obejde bez starostí s chemií, jelikož tato trvalka je vysoce odolná a netrpí na žádné běžné choroby ani škůdce, což z ní dělá ideální volbu pro začátečníky.
Hlaváč patří mezi krátkověké trvalky, což znamená, že mateřská rostlina vydrží v záhonu jen několik let. Pokud ale na podzim necháte několik posledních květů dozrát, ochotně se na příznivém místě sám přesévá. Co se týče přezimování, rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná a vydrží i silnější mrazy do -23 °C. Zásadním pravidlem pro úspěšné přezimování je ale ochrana před vlhkostí. Nesnáší zimní vlhko, ve kterém by jí mohly uhnít kořeny. Proto je propustná půda naprosto klíčová. Pro pěstování v truhlíku na balkoně platí jednoduchá pravidla:
- Zvolte nádobu s odtokovými otvory.
- Na dno nasypte drenážní vrstvu (keramzit nebo štěrk).
- Použijte lehký substrát smíchaný s pískem.
