The 'Solar Glory' goldenrod will brighten up late summer flower beds with its golden flowers and reliably attract bees. The original wild species come from North America, where they grow in open, sunny locations. Our garden cultivars have retained their immense hardiness, but they have no invasive tendencies and do not spread uncontrollably in beds. After transplanting into well-drained loamy soil, a sturdy clump reaching a height of up to one meter will quickly grow from the supplied mature seedling in a pot. It is an undemanding, long-lived perennial that even beginners can manage to grow. It needs no support, does not suffer from pests, and handles severe frosts. 'Solar Glory' is specially bred for cutting and blooms in lighter yellow shades from August to October. For harvesting into bouquets, you can use blooming stems as well as those with buds; they will last about ten days in a vase. It will also serve excellently for drying into winter arrangements. The uncut flowers will create a nice winter effect in the flower bed. A surprise is that the flowers are edible, and you can use them to garnish your dishes.

Goldenrod is an ideal choice for a sunny location, where its beauty and rich flowering will fully stand out. Plant the supplied seedling in loamy, humous, and well-drained soil. When planting, maintain a spacing of approximately 50 cm, which corresponds to 4 to 6 plants per square meter. This spacing is important to ensure good air circulation around the leaves, which benefits the plant and keeps it in perfect condition. Although it is a very vital and long-lived perennial, this modern cultivar, unlike older species, does not spread uncontrollably around the flower beds and does not self-seed. Your garden will thus gain a stable and disciplined plant that won't cause you any extra worries.
During the growing season, keep the soil slightly moist. Goldenrod will appreciate watering especially in longer dry periods, which will prevent unnecessary stress to the plant and potential weakening. The plant is otherwise absolutely undemanding and will please you with the fact that it does not suffer from any common diseases nor is it attacked by pests. If you only have a terrace or balcony available, you can also successfully grow this perennial in a spacious container. For growing in a pot, choose a sufficiently deep container with drainage holes, use a high-quality substrate mixed with compost, and do not forget about more regular watering, because soil in containers dries out much faster than in the open ground.
Care at the end of the season and over the winter is very easy. The strong straight stems grow to a height of 50 to 100 cm and do not need any support. You can safely leave faded stems on the flower beds even through the winter, because rime on dry inflorescences creates a wonderful winter effect. Goldenrod is fully frost-resistant down to -28 °C, so it requires no special winter protection. Perform a hard pruning of the entire plant just above the ground only in early spring, before the new shoots begin to sprout.
