The Sutton’s Apricot foxglove will bring a romantic touch of the countryside to any garden and reliably liven up semi-shady and sunny places. The original wild species comes from our Central European nature, where you can find it in clearings, moist meadows, and light forest edges. You will receive from us a grown seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant into loamy and well-drained soil. Although it is a short-lived perennial, it reliably self-seeds in a suitable spot. During May and June, massive stems up to one hundred and twenty centimeters high grow from the basal rosette of green leaves. The Sutton’s Apricot variety stands out with an unusual shade that smoothly transitions from a soft apricot to a pink color. The flowers act as a great lure for bees and bumblebees. Foxglove is suitable for the back areas of perennial beds and does not require complex care. It can easily handle frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees and does not suffer from pests. If you like to create bouquets, its sturdy stems will also please in a vase, where they stay fresh for six to eight days. Just remember that all parts of the plant are poisonous.

The cultivar Royal Wedding will reward you in May and June with huge bowl-shaped flowers with pure white petals, which hide a distinct dark burgundy spot in their center. Moreover, these enchanting flowers reliably attract pollinators from far and wide. It is typical for Oriental poppies that their strikingly fuzzy green leaves die back soon after flowering. The plant takes a break over the warmest summer to gather strength, and a smaller portion of the leaves often sprouts again only at the end of summer. Therefore, it is ideal to plant the poppy in the flower bed in close proximity to other perennials that sprout slightly later and naturally fill the empty space left by the resting poppy. It avoids diseases and needs no support, reaching a height of around sixty to eighty centimeters. Just watch out for field voles, which might develop a taste for its fleshy roots. Otherwise, it is a long-lived plant that even a complete beginner can handle without worries. Given that the plant is poisonous, it is naturally not intended for consumption. Similar to other poppies, the stems need to be harvested exactly at the moment when the buds begin to color and slightly crack. Right after cutting, we sear the ends of the stems with a flame for about twenty seconds to prevent sap leakage, and then we put them into cold water. Thanks to this procedure, they will stay beautiful for about four days in a vase and add amazing lightness to bouquets. Although these delicate flowers are not suitable for drying, they simply have no competition in fresh spring bouquets.

Foxglove 'Sutton’s Apricot' will arrive to you as a strong and healthy seedling that you can plant straight into your perennial bed. This plant is best suited to a sunny or semi-shady location, ideally a cooler spot with higher humidity. For successful cultivation, choose loamy, well-drained soil, which you can enrich with quality humus before planting. Plant the seedlings with a spacing of about 40 centimeters apart, which equates to six to eight plants per square meter. This adequate spacing will ensure the necessary air circulation around the sturdy stems, which grow to an impressive height of 80 to 120 centimeters during the season. Thanks to plenty of space and fresh air, the plant will develop much better and healthier.
During the spring and summer months, keep the soil moderately moist. Foxglove appreciates regular watering, but be very careful not to let it sit in permanently waterlogged soil, which could lead to root rot. From May to June, the plant will reward you with beautiful bell-shaped flowers in unusual apricot and light pink shades. These flowers not only look beautiful but also act as an absolute magnet for bees, bumblebees, and other beneficial pollinators. Although it is a short-lived perennial, meaning the original plant will die off after a few years, if you do not cut all the stems completely after flowering and let the plant self-seed freely, it will reliably maintain itself in your flowerbed from new seedlings. Growing this foxglove is very rewarding and is suitable even for complete beginners.
