Papaver orientale
Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

It has a semi-double pure white flower, often with inner twisted petals, and compact, strictly upright growth. The flowers are very durable.

Náprstník Sutton’s Apricot k vám dorazí jako silná a zdravá sazenice, kterou můžete rovnou vysadit na trvalkový záhon. Této rostlině nejlépe vyhovuje slunné až polostinné stanoviště, ideálně spíše chladnější místo s vyšší vzdušnou vlhkostí. Pro úspěšné pěstování zvolte hlinitou, dobře propustnou půdu, kterou můžete před výsadbou obohatit o kvalitní humus. Sazenice sázejte do sponu zhruba 40 centimetrů od sebe, což odpovídá šesti až osmi rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Tento dostatečný rozestup zajistí nezbytné proudění vzduchu kolem mohutných stonků, které během sezóny dorůstají do úctyhodné výšky 80 až 120 centimetrů. Díky dostatku prostoru a čerstvého vzduchu se rostlina bude mnohem lépe a zdravěji vyvíjet.
Během jarních a letních měsíců udržujte půdu přiměřeně vlhkou. Náprstník ocení pravidelnou zálivku, ale dejte si velký pozor, aby nestál v trvale přemokřené zemině, což by mohlo vést k uhnívání kořenů. Od května do června vás rostlina odmění nádhernými zvonkovitými květy v neobvyklých meruňkových a světle růžových odstínech. Tyto květy nejen krásně vypadají, ale také fungují jako naprostý magnet na včely, čmeláky a další užitečné opylovače. Jedná se sice o krátkověkou trvalku, což znamená, že původní rostlina po několika letech odumře, ale pokud po odkvětu neodstřihnete úplně všechny stonky a necháte rostlinu volně vysemenit, spolehlivě se na vašem záhonu udrží z nových semenáčků. Pokud rádi tvoříte aranžmá, můžete pevné stonky využít k řezu, ve váze vám totiž vydrží svěží šest až osm dní.
Pěstování tohoto náprstníku je velmi vděčné a hodí se i pro úplné začátečníky. Velkou výhodou je, že rostlina netrpí na žádné běžné choroby a spolehlivě se jí vyhýbají i zahradní škůdci. Před příchodem zimy nevyžaduje nijak složitou údržbu, protože je plně mrazuvzdorná a bez potíží zvládne teploty klesající až k -28 °C. Doporučujeme však přízemní stálezelenou listovou růžici ochránit před ostrým a vysušujícím zimním sluncem, k čemuž skvěle poslouží lehké překrytí smrkovým chvojím. Sazenici můžete úspěšně pěstovat také ve větším a hlubším květináči na polostinné terase. V nádobě je ale nutné zajistit kvalitní drenážní vrstvu, například z vrstvy keramzitu na dně, pro bezproblémový odtok přebytečné vody a pamatovat na častější zálivku. Při výsadbě i následné péči vždy myslete na to, že jsou všechny části náprstníku silně jedovaté a vyhněte se pěstování v dosahu malých dětí a domácích zvířat.
