For successful cultivation, give it permeable and loamy soil, into which you work a little matured compost before planting to replenish the much-needed humus. Plant the seedlings about 40 cm apart. This spacing is very important because it provides the plants with enough light and space for airflow, which naturally supports their vitality and overall resilience.
Keep the soil slightly moist during the growing season. Foxglove appreciates regular watering, especially in drier periods of the year, but at the same time, it does not tolerate constant waterlogging at all. This plant boasts a huge advantage – it is completely avoided by diseases and pests, so your care will be completely worry-free and without sprays. The 'Hanabee' cultivars branch very richly and bloom with beautiful large flowers. To support the formation of further buds and significantly prolong the flowering period during the summer, it is very useful to continuously trim off faded main stems. This will encourage the plant to new growth and prevent unnecessary exhaustion. Moreover, the flowers attract a huge number of bees and other pollinators. You can also safely cut them for a vase, where they will stay fresh for 6 to 8 days; however, these flowers are not suitable for drying. During any handling, remember that it is a fully poisonous plant.
If you want to enjoy this beauty on a balcony, foxglove can also be successfully grown in large window boxes or pots.
