Thanks to its origin, it is an undemanding and hardy plant that can handle various types of soils, provided they are sufficiently well-drained and loamy. In the garden, it functions as a great architectural element, because it does not form runners but remains in compact clumps. It finds its use in perennial beds, where it adds lightness and movement to the composition, but it also looks great in larger groups in natural-style plantings.
The 'Heidebraut' cultivar is prized primarily for its exceptional autumn effect. It blooms from August to October with brownish-purple inflorescences on upright stems. With the arrival of cooler days, the entire plant changes color to beautiful golden and orange tones, and the stems arch outwards into airy fans. These strong stems are excellent for cutting for autumn bouquets and dry very well, so they can bring you joy in dried arrangements all winter long. Bezkolenec modrý 'Heidebraut' je vděčná a dlouhověká trvalka, která do vaší zahrady vnese lehkost a pohyb. Pro její úspěšné pěstování je zásadní výběr správného místa. Této okrasné trávě se nejlépe daří na stanovišti, které je chladnější a vlhčí, ideálně na plném slunci nebo v mírném polostínu. Pokud jí dopřejete hlinitou, humózní půdu, která dokáže zadržet vláhu, ale zároveň je propustná, odmění se vám vitálním růstem. Vyhněte se extrémně suchým písčitým půdám, kde by rostlina trpěla suchem, i těžkým jílovitým půdám, kde by v zimě stála voda. Sazenice sázejte tak, aby byl povrch kořenového balu v rovině s okolním terénem, a po výsadbě nezapomeňte na vydatnou zálivku.
Během vegetační sezóny je péče o bezkolenec minimální. Rostlina roste v kompaktních trsech a nešíří se agresivně do okolí, takže není třeba se bát, že by vytlačila sousední rostliny. Její nároky na vláhu jsou střední (💧💧), v horkých letních dnech uvítá zálivku, ale díky svému hlubšímu kořenovému systému je poměrně odolná. Hnojení není nutné přehánět; stačí na jaře přidat k trsu trochu vyzrálého kompostu. Příliš mnoho živin by mohlo způsobit, že se trsy „rozvalí“. Skvělou zprávou je, že tato tráva je přirozeně odolná vůči chorobám a netrpí na škůdce, což z ní dělá ideální rostlinu pro ekologicky zaměřené zahrady.
Nejkrásnější období pro bezkolenec začíná v srpnu, kdy vykvétá, a pokračuje na podzim, kdy se barví do úžasných zlatavých a oranžových tónů. Právě pro tento zimní efekt je důležité nechat rostlinu přes zimu nedotčenou. Zpětný řez provádíme výhradně na jaře, ideálně v březnu, kdy odstraníme celou suchou nadzemní část nízko nad zemí. Tímto způsobem zajistíte rostlině přirozenou zimní ochranu před mrazem. Přestože je rostlina vysoce mrazuvzdorná (zóna 4a), zimní vlhkost v kombinaci s holomrazy by mohla poškodit obnažený střed trsu.
Láká vás pěstování v nádobách? Bezkolenec 'Heidebraut' je pro tento účel velmi vhodný díky svému vzpřímenému a úhlednému růstu. Použijte dostatečně velký květináč (alespoň 10-20 litrů pro dospělou rostlinu) s kvalitním zahradnickým substrátem. V nádobách je rostlina závislá na vaší péči, proto pravidelně kontrolujte vlhkost substrátu. Vzhledem k tomu, že kořeny v nádobě jsou vystaveny mrazu ze všech stran, doporučujeme na zimu květináč postavit na polystyrenovou desku a obalit jej netkanou textilií nebo bublinkovou fólií.
