Astra rozkladitá 'Eastern Star' je mimořádně nenáročná trvalka, jejíž pěstování hravě zvládne i úplný začátečník. Jelikož od nás obdržíte již plně prokořeněnou sazenici v květináči, můžete se rovnou pustit do výsadby. Rostlině se nejlépe daří v polostínu až hlubším stínu, je tak perfektní volbou pro výsadby pod vzrostlými stromy. Zde ocení běžnou propustnou a hlinitou půdu. Na rozdíl od mnoha jiných druhů si překvapivě dobře poradí s kořenovou konkurencí okolních dřevin. Sazenice vysazujte ve sponu 60 cm, což odpovídá zhruba 4 až 6 rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí dostatek prostoru pro růst hustých trsů a zároveň udrží dobrou cirkulaci vzduchu.
Po výsadbě nezapomeňte na pravidelnější zálivku, aby sazenice dobře zakořenila. Jakmile se na stanovišti uchytí, stává se velmi soběstačnou a bez problémů snese i sušší podmínky. Zákazníci se nás často ptají, zda lze astru pěstovat v květináči nebo na terase. Odpověď zní ano! Vyberte dostatečně velkou nádobu s odtokovým otvorem a použijte běžný propustný substrát. Pamatujte jen, že zemina v truhlíku vysychá rychleji než záhon, proto vlhkost pravidelně kontrolujte. Během sezóny rostlina nevyžaduje žádnou oporu, dorůstá do kompaktní výšky 40 až 50 centimetrů.
Velkou výhodou tohoto druhu je absolutní odolnost. Netrpí na žádné choroby ani škůdce, takže se zcela vyhnete používání chemických postřiků. Během srpna a září rozkvete záplavou čistě bílých květů, které spolehlivě lákají včely a motýly. Tyto květy se skvěle hodí i k řezu do živých kytic. S úderem podzimu rostlinu rozhodně nestříhejte. Její tmavé drátovité stonky ponechané na záhonu vytváří přes zimu nádherný efekt, zvláště když je pokryje jinovatka. Zpětný řez odumřelých částí až k zemi proveďte teprve na začátku jara. Astra je extrémně mrazuvzdorná až do minus 28 °C, takže zimu u nás přečká zcela bez úhony.
