Hvozdík krvavý vnáší do zahrad to pravé luční kouzlo. Tato nenáročná trvalka původně pochází z Balkánu a Turecka. Ve své domovině obývá slunné kamenité stráně, a proto se i u nás nejlépe cítí na plném slunci v propustné, klidně i chudší půdě. Je to ideální rostlina pro štěrkové záhony nebo přírodně laděné stepní kompozice, kde svými tenkými, až padesát centimetrů vysokými stonky vytváří efekt vzdušnosti a lehkosti. Na pevných stoncích se od června do srpna pohupují sytě krvavě červená květenství, která vypadají jako drobné vznášející se drahokamy. Díky své struktuře funguje jako takzvaná průhledná rostlina, přes kterou je vidět na další trvalky v pozadí, čímž dodává záhonu hloubku. Květy jemně voní a fungují jako spolehlivý magnet pro motýly a včely. Hodí se také k řezu do vázy, kde vydrží svěží poměrně dlouho a dodá kyticím moderní, rozevlátý vzhled. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná a na vhodném stanovišti se ráda sama přesévá, čímž se postará o přirozenou dynamiku vaší zahrady.

Cultivation
Pro úspěšné pěstování hvozdíku krvavého je naprosto klíčový výběr stanoviště. Tato rostlina je specialistou na slunná a suchá místa, kde se jiným trvalkám nemusí dařit. Vyberte pro ni místo s celodenním osluněním. Půda musí být propustná, spíše chudší, písčitá nebo kamenitá. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou půdu, je nutné ji před výsadbou vylepšit přidáním štěrku nebo písku, aby voda rychle odtékala. V přemokřené zemině by hvozdík trpěl a mohly by mu uhnívat kořeny, zejména v zimním období. Protože obdržíte již zapěstovanou sazenici, můžete ji vysazovat v průběhu celé sezóny, dokud nemrzne, ideálně však na jaře nebo na podzim, kdy se rostliny nejlépe ujímají.
Při výsadbě dodržujte spon přibližně 30 cm, což odpovídá hustotě asi 9 až 12 rostlin na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu mezi trsy a zároveň časem vytvoří krásný zapojený porost. Po výsadbě sazenice zalijte, aby se půda spojila s kořeny. Jakmile rostlina dobře zakoření, stává se velmi odolnou vůči suchu a zálivku vyžaduje pouze v obdobích extrémně dlouhých veder. Hnojení není nutné, naopak – v příliš výživné půdě by rostlina rostla bujně, ale stonky by byly slabé a poléhaly by. Skvělou zprávou je, že hvozdík krvavý netrpí na choroby ani škůdce, takže chemická ochrana není třeba.
Co se týče údržby, jedná se o krátkověkou trvalku, která na jednom místě vydrží v plné kráse několik let. Aby se ve vaší zahradě udržela dlouhodobě, je vhodné nechat alespoň část květů dozrát a vysemenit. Rostlina se ochotně a spolehlivě přesévá sama, čímž se porost přirozeně obnovuje. Pokud si přejete prodloužit dobu kvetení nebo zabránit vysemenění na nevhodná místa, můžete odkvetlé stonky průběžně odstraňovat. Hvozdík je plně mrazuvzdorný (až do -23 °C) a nevyžaduje na zimu žádnou speciální přikrývku, pokud je zasazen v dobře drénované půdě.
Pěstování v nádobách či truhlících je možné a velmi efektní, zvláště pokud hledáte rostlinu na slunný jižní balkon. Květináč musí mít odtokové otvory a na dno nezapomeňte dát drenážní vrstvu z kamínků nebo keramzitu. Substrát namíchejte s pískem v poměru 1:1, aby byl lehký a nezadržoval vodu. V nádobách je kořenový systém více vystaven mrazu a vysychání, proto v zimě nádobu obalte izolací nebo ji zapusťte do země a v létě hlídejte, aby substrát zcela neproschl na troud, ačkoliv mírné sucho rostlina zvládne s přehledem.
