Dianthus carthusianorum, česky hvozdík kartouzek, vděčí za své druhové jméno mnichům kartuziánům, kteří jej s oblibou pěstovali v klášterních zahradách pro jeho krásu i odolnost. Tato půvabná trvalka vnese do vašich záhonů lehkost, barvu a eleganci divokých luk. Rostlina tvoří husté přízemní trsy úzkých listů, nad kterými se v létě vznášejí drobné, ale barevně velmi výrazné hlavičky květů v odstínech magenty a červené. Vyžaduje plné slunce a velmi dobře propustnou, hlinitopísčitou půdu, ve které nebude stát voda, jinak je na pěstování zcela nenáročná.
Pokud hledáte rostlinu, která spojuje krásu s užitkem, kartouzek vás nezklame. Jeho květy jsou totiž nejen ozdobou záhonu, ale také vynikajícím materiálem pro floristy. Ve váze vydrží překvapivě dlouho a hodí se do venkovských i moderních aranžmá. Jelikož od nás obdržíte již vzrostlou sazenici, je založení výsadby velmi jednoduché a vhodné i pro úplné začátečníky. Hvozdík kartouzek nejlépe prospívá na plném slunci, kde se jeho květy v odstínech magenty a červené plně rozvinou. Půdu vyžaduje propustnou, spíše zásaditou, s podílem písku či kamení. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou půdu, je nezbytné při výsadbě vytvořit drenážní vrstvu nebo zeminu promíchat s pískem, protože rostlina nesnáší zimní vlhko a podmáčení. Při výsadbě dodržujte rozestupy alespoň 30 cm, aby se trsy rostlin navzájem neutlačovaly a mohly se přirozeně rozrůstat. Po zasazení rostlinu zalijte, ale v dospělosti jí postačí jen přirozené srážky, doplňkovou zálivku vyžaduje pouze v období extrémního dlouhotrvajícího sucha.
Tato trvalka je ceněná nejen pro svou nenáročnost, ale i pro výborný zdravotní stav – uvádí se u ní absence běžných škůdců i chorob. Během léta, konkrétně v červnu až srpnu, vás potěší záplavou vonných květů. Ty jsou vhodné k řezu, takže si je můžete natrhat do letních kytic, kde vydrží překvapivě dlouho. Pro udržení kompaktního tvaru a vitality rostliny je vhodné po odkvětu sestřihnout stonky; často tím docílíte i slabšího druhého kvetení na konci léta. Hvozdík se také na stanovišti snadno přesévá, čímž se přirozeně obnovuje a zahušťuje porost.
Pěstování v nádobách je možné a hvozdík v nich vypadá velmi efektně, zejména v rustikálních či terakotových květináčích. Protože má rostlina ráda prostor pro kořeny a nesnáší přemokření, vybírejte nádoby s dostatečným objemem a bezpodmínečně zajistěte odtok vody. Zeminu v truhlíku nenechávejte trvale mokrou – hvozdík je zvyklý na podmínky suchých strání. Co se týče zimy, je rostlina vysoce mrazuvzdorná (až do -23 °C) a nevyžaduje zakrývání chvojím ani jinou speciální péči, pokud není vysazena v nádobě. U rostlin v květináčích doporučujeme nádobu na zimu obalit izolací nebo ji zapustit do země, aby kořeny nepromrzly od stěn nádoby.

Hvozdík krvavý vnáší do zahrad to pravé luční kouzlo. Tato nenáročná trvalka původně pochází z Balkánu a Turecka. Ve své domovině obývá slunné kamenité stráně, a proto se i u nás nejlépe cítí na plném slunci v propustné, klidně i chudší půdě. Je to ideální rostlina pro štěrkové záhony nebo přírodně laděné stepní kompozice, kde svými tenkými, až padesát centimetrů vysokými stonky vytváří efekt vzdušnosti a lehkosti. Gaura is a clump-forming perennial native to Texas and Louisiana. Here, it behaves more like a short-lived perennial. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.

An undemanding and modest perennial that blooms with a large number of tiny flowers. It blooms for a record-breaking length of time throughout late summer and autumn. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that release a minty-spicy scent. The thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses as well as in naturalistic steppe beds, perhaps with lower grasses. This calamint is generally more vigorous. It differs from other calamints with felted leaves by its record flowering length, stiff and shiny leaves, and also a larger number of flowers that do not form seeds and are therefore maximally durable.
