Levandule Munstead patří mezi nejoblíbenější a nejodolnější kultivary levandule lékařské, která má svůj původ na slunných a kamenitých svazích Středomoří. Díky tomu výborně snáší sucho a vyžaduje plné slunce s dobře propustnou, spíše chudší písčitou půdou. V našich podmínkách je plně mrazuvzdorná a svým stříbřitě šedým listem zdobí zahradu i v zimních měsících. Rostlina tvoří kompaktní, husté bochánky dorůstající výšky okolo 40 centimetrů, což z ní činí ideální volbu pro lemování záhonů, do skalek nebo pro pěstování v nádobách. Během července a srpna se rozvine záplava sytě modrofialových květů, které svou nezaměnitelnou vůní lákají velké množství včel, čmeláků a motýlů. Květy jsou perfektní k řezu do čerstvých letních kytic, ale především se hodí k sušení. Pokud je sklidíte v době, kdy se začínají otevírat první poupata, udrží si svou barvu i intenzivní aroma po velmi dlouhou dobu, takže je můžete využít do vonných sáčků nebo polštářků. Munstead je kultivar ceněný pro svou vitalitu a bohaté kvetení, které zvládne i začínající zahradník.

Klíčem k úspěchu je výběr správného stanoviště, které by mělo co nejvíce připomínat její domovinu ve Středomoří. Vyberte pro ni místo na plném slunci, kde se opírají paprsky po většinu dne. Stín levanduli nesvědčí, rostliny se v něm vytahují za světlem, málo kvetou a ztrácejí svůj kompaktní tvar. Půda musí být především dokonale propustná, spíše chudší, písčitá nebo kamenitá. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou půdu, je nezbytné ji vylehčit přimícháním písku nebo drobného štěrku, případně sázet levanduli na vyvýšené záhony, aby voda rychle odtékala. Mokro u kořenů je totiž jediná věc, která může tuto jinak nezničitelnou rostlinu zahubit.
Samotná výsadba zakoupených sazenic probíhá nejlépe na jaře nebo na podzim, ale kontejnerované rostliny lze sázet v podstatě celou sezónu, pokud není půda zamrzlá nebo nejsou extrémní vedra. Vzhledem k tomu, že kultivar Munstead dorůstá do šířky i výšky okolo 40 centimetrů, dodržujte při výsadbě spon přibližně 30 centimetrů mezi jednotlivými rostlinami (cca 5 až 7 kusů na metr čtvereční). To zajistí dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu, což funguje jako přirozená prevence proti houbovým chorobám, a zároveň se rostliny po čase krásně spojí do souvislého porostu. Po výsadbě sazenice zalévejte, dokud dobře nezakoření, ale následně se zálivkou šetřete. Dospělá levandule je suchomilná a zálivku vyžaduje jen v obdobích extrémního dlouhotrvajícího sucha.
Pro udržení krásného, kompaktního tvaru a bohatého kvetení je naprosto zásadní pravidelný řez, který provádíme dvakrát ročně. První řez přichází na jaře (březen), kdy rostlinu zkrátíme přibližně o třetinu, abychom podpořili nové větvení a hustotu keříku. Dejte si však velký pozor, abyste neřezali až do starého dřeva, ze kterého levandule již špatně obrazí – vždy nechte část s loňskými lístky. Druhý, mírnější sestřih následuje po odkvětu v létě, kdy odstraníme odkvetlé květní stvoly. Tím rostlinu začistíme a často ji podpoříme k opětovnému nakvétání na konci sezóny. Co se týče výživy, levandule je skromná a nevyžaduje hnojení; přemíra živin by vedla k bujnému růstu listů na úkor květů a snížení mrazuvzdornosti.
Pokud nemáte zahradu, levandule Munstead je díky svému nižšímu vzrůstu ideální pro pěstování v nádobách či truhlíku. V takovém případě je nutné zajistit, aby květináč měl odtokové otvory a na dně silnou drenážní vrstvu z keramzitu nebo kamínků. Použijte substrát pro bylinky smíchaný s pískem v poměru 1:1. Pamatujte, že v nádobě substrát vysychá rychleji a prohřívá se více než ve volné půdě, takže zálivku budete muset kontrolovat častěji, ale stále platí pravidlo nepřelévat. V zimě je tato odrůda plně mrazuvzdorná až do -28 °C (zóna 5a) a nevyžaduje na záhoně speciální ochranu. Pouze rostliny v nádobách je vhodné na zimu obalit jutou nebo polystyrenem, aby nepromrzl kořenový bal, případně nádobu zapustit do země.

The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
