Japanese forest grass is a true jewel for shady and semi-shady corners of gardens, bringing an unrepeatable lightness. This elegant ornamental grass originates from the moist rocky cliffs of Japan, where it naturally forms cascading stands. Thanks to its origin, it loves well-draining, humus-rich soil that does not dry out, and appreciates protection from the harsh midday sun. In the garden, it works great as undergrowth beneath trees and shrubs or as an edging element along paths, where its stems wave beautifully in even the gentlest breeze. The Beni-kaze cultivar, whose name poetically translates to red wind, does justice to its name and is sought after for its color variability. While the plant is fresh green and resembles a small bamboo in the spring and summer, with the arrival of cooler autumn days, its leaves begin to turn into deep tones of red, burgundy, and bronze. This color show continues into winter, when the plant dries out, but thanks to its sturdy stems, it keeps its attractive shape even under a dusting of snow. Tato elegantní trvalka vnese do vaší zahrady klid a harmonii, pokud jí dopřejete podmínky, které miluje. Rákosovka japonská 'Beni-kaze' je rostlinou stinných a polostinných zákoutí, kde její listy rozzáří tmavší kouty zahrady. Přímé slunce snese pouze za předpokladu, že má neustále vlhkou půdu, jinak se její listy kroutí a hnědnou. Pro výsadbu připravte propustnou půdu obohacenou humusem, která je kyprá a nevysychavá. Sazenici zasaďte tak hluboko, jak rostla v původním kontejneru, a půdu kolem ní jemně přitlačte. Pokud sázíte více kusů, dodržujte rozestupy alespoň 30 cm, aby proudění vzduchu kolem listů bylo dostatečné, ačkoliv je tato rostlina přirozeně velmi zdravá a netrpí chorobami. Jedním z hlavních lákadel kultivaru 'Beni-kaze' je jeho barevná proměnlivost, která vynikne zejména na konci sezóny. Aby se listy na podzim vybarvily do sytých odstínů červené, vínové a bronzové, rostlina potřebuje stabilní vláhu. Zálivka by měla být pravidelná, ale ne přemokřující – půda by měla být stále mírně vlhká. Díky pomalému a kompaktnímu růstu se rákosovka nerozrůstá agresivně a drží si svůj úhledný tvar, což z ní činí bezúdržbový prvek záhonů. Hnojení není nezbytně nutné, pokud je půda kvalitní, ale pro podporu vitality můžete na jaře použít hnojivo s postupným uvolňováním živin.
Péče o rákosovku v zimním a jarním období je velmi prostá. Jedná se o dlouhověkou trvalku, která výborně zvládá i silné mrazy. Suché listy, které na rostlině zůstávají přes zimu, tvoří přirozenou ochranu a zároveň plní okrasnou funkci, kdy se ve větru jemně vlní a šustí. Nikdy je nestříhejte na podzim, do otevřených stébel by mohla zatéct voda a způsobit hnilobu. Jarní údržba spočívá v odstranění všech suchých částí nůžkami těsně nad zemí dříve, než začnou rašit nové výhonky. To zajistí, že nový trs bude hustý, čistý a vitální.
Pokud nemáte zahradu, můžete rákosovku 'Beni-kaze' úspěšně pěstovat i v květináči. Vyberte dostatečně prostornou nádobu, aby se kořeny nepřehřívaly, a použijte kvalitní substrát pro balkonové rostliny smíchaný s trochou písku nebo drobného štěrku. V nádobě je rostlina zcela závislá na vaší zálivce, proto ji kontrolujte i v chladnějších dnech, pokud neprší. Pro zimování v nádobě doporučujeme květináč postavit na polystyrenovou desku a obalit jej netkanou textilií, případně jej umístit do chráněného závětří, aby nedošlo k promrznutí kořenového systému.
