Since we supply container-grown seedlings, you can plant the hydrangea practically anytime during the growing season (from spring to autumn), provided the ground is not frozen.

• Spring (March–May): Ideal time; the plant has the whole season to root before winter.
• Summer: Planting is possible, but you must ensure truly regular and generous watering so the root ball does not dry out.
• Autumn (September–November): The soil is still warm and moist, which supports root growth. However, we recommend mulching the roots before the arrival of frosts.

Panicle hydrangea 'Kyushu' is fully hardy (down to approx. -30 °C) and handles winter in our conditions without problems.

• Young seedlings: For the first year or two after planting, we recommend piling a layer of mulch (bark, leaves) around the roots as protection against bare frosts.
• Plants in pots: These are more sensitive to frost because the roots can freeze from the sides. Wrap the pot with polystyrene, burlap, or bubble wrap and place it on an insulating mat.

• In summer, they bloom pure white.
• With the arrival of cooler autumn days, the flower heads color into soft pink shades. Soil acidity does not influence this process.

Its beauty is purely ornamental. However, the flowers are beautiful in a vase and are great for drying into dry arrangements, where they remain decorative all winter.

• Leaves: It has distinctively glossy, dark green leaves, which is rarer for panicle hydrangeas (most have matte leaves).
• Inflorescence: Its panicles are slender, long, and airy (not as dense and "heavy" as, for example, the 'Limelight' variety), which creates a very delicate impression. The flowers attract a large number of pollinators.

For abundant flowering, the hydrangea needs plenty of nutrients.

• Spring: After spring pruning, apply slow-release fertilizer or work compost into the soil.
• Season: From April to July, you can fertilize with liquid fertilizer for hydrangeas or acid-loving plants (approx. once every 14 days).
• End of summer: Stop fertilizing with nitrogen fertilizers from August so that shoots have time to mature and lignify before winter. You can use autumn fertilizer with higher potassium content.

1. Unsuitable soil pH: The soil is too calcareous, the plant cannot absorb iron. The solution is fertilizing with an iron-containing fertilizer and acidifying the soil with peat.
2. Lack of water: Leaves turn yellow and dry out from the edges.
3. Waterlogging: If the plant stands in water, roots rot and leaves turn yellow and fall off. For the 'Kyushu' cultivar, slight yellowing in autumn is natural before leaf fall.

Panicle hydrangeas are generally very resistant and suffer less from diseases than other species. Nevertheless, the following may appear:

• Powdery mildew: White coating on leaves, appears during high air humidity and poor air circulation.
• Aphids: Can attack young shoots in spring.
• Spider mites: Cause tiny dots on leaves, especially in dry and hot weather. Usually, timely intervention with commonly available products or an oil-based spray is sufficient.

Yes, it is possible, but it requires a bit more care than in open ground.

• Container size: Choose a sufficiently large pot (at least 15–20 liters to start, larger later) so the plant has space and the substrate does not dry out so quickly.
• Watering: Substrate dries out much faster in a container; daily watering will be necessary in summer.
• Drainage: Do not forget holes for water outflow and a drainage layer (expanded clay) at the bottom.

Pruning is absolutely crucial for panicle hydrangeas because they bloom on new (this year's) shoots. Always prune early in spring (March), before leaves sprout.

• For large flowers: Perform a deep cut. Shorten last year's shoots low above the ground, leaving only 2–3 pairs of buds (approx. 15 cm above ground). The result will be strong stems and giant flower heads.
• For a larger number of smaller flowers: Prune less radically, shorten shoots by roughly half to two-thirds. The bush will be taller and denser.

Thanks to its requirements for acidic and moist soil, it fits perfectly in the company of:

• Rhododendrons and azaleas (have the same soil requirements).
• Hostas and Heuchera (Coral bells), which cover the lower part of the shrub.
• Ornamental grasses (e.g., Miscanthus, Fountain grass), which add texture to the bed.
• It also stands out as a solitaire in the middle of a lawn thanks to its size and flood of white flowers.
