Brass buttons is an inconspicuous but very reliable ground cover perennial that comes from the harsher mountainous and rocky areas of New Zealand. Thanks to its origin, it is used to both sun and partial shade and thrives very well in well-drained, sandy, or loamy soil with regular watering. You will receive an already grown seedling in a pot from us, which just needs to be transplanted to the selected spot in the garden. There it will very quickly form a dense carpet reaching a height of only five to ten centimeters. It is decorated with tiny, toothed leaves that transition from green to attractive bronze shades. During summer, from June to August, unconventional white-green spherical flowers appear. Although brass buttons is not at all suitable for cutting into a vase or for drying in dry arrangements, its main strength lies in its practical garden use. It will serve excellently as undergrowth beneath taller shrubs, in rockeries, or for edging flower beds. Even absolute beginners can handle caring for it, because it does not suffer from diseases or pests and easily survives frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees. Moreover, it retains its charm even in the cold months and will ensure an interesting winter effect on every flower bed.

Are you looking for a reliable and completely maintenance-free groundcover plant? 'Plazilka drobnolistá' (Muehlenbeckia) is perfect for beginners. Just plant it in well-drained, loamy, or sandy soil in a place with sunlight, or possibly partial shade. It is very important to maintain the correct planting spacing. Plant individual plants about 25 to 30 centimetres apart, and you will need 9 to 12 pieces per square metre. Thanks to this, they will soon merge and create an amazing low carpet that measures only 5 to 10 centimetres in height and can naturally suppress weed growth.
Care during the season is really minimal. The plant makes do with ordinary, moderate watering and does not require regular fertilization. Its resistance is quite exceptional – your cultivation will not be complicated by any pests or fungal diseases. It will decorate your garden for many years, and the leaves also gradually transition from fresh green to a beautiful bronze colour. In the summer, unusual spherical flowers in white-green shades appear. The plant does not self-seed and does not have a scent; its main goal is to cover the soil. Faded flowers do not need to be removed in any way, and the plant does not require pruning.
This perennial boasts excellent frost resistance down to -23 °C. It requires no covering at all for the winter, and thanks to its coloured leaves, it provides a beautiful winter effect in every bed. We are very often asked if it is possible to grow this plant in a pot as well. The answer is yes, it is an excellent choice for containers! When growing on a terrace, simply pour a layer of expanded clay (LECA) on the bottom for proper drainage of excess water. In a container, it then beautifully spills over the edges and requires no support.
