Úspěšné pěstování kultivaru Robustica začíná výběrem vhodného místa. Ačkoliv jde o velmi tolerantní trvalku, nejlépe se jí daří v půdách, které dokáží udržet vláhu. Ideální je hlinitá a humózní zemina. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou půdu, vylehčete ji při výsadbě příměsí kompostu. Stanoviště může být od slunného až po stinné, avšak platí přímá úměra: čím více slunce rostlině dopřejete, tím více vláhy bude potřebovat. Na suchém úpalu bez zálivky by listy mohly osychat a ztrácet svou svěží zelenou barvu. Rostliny sázejte tak, aby krček sazenice byl v úrovni terénu, a po výsadbě důkladně zalijte, aby se kořeny spojily s okolní zeminou.
Péče v průběhu roku spočívá především v udržování estetického vzhledu, protože 'Robustica' nevyžaduje oporu a netrpí škůdci. Květy, které se objevují od června do srpna v limetkově žluté barvě, jsou vhodné k řezu do váz i k sušení. Pokud květy nesklidíte, je vhodné rostlinu po odkvětu radikálněji sestřihnout. Nebojte se odstranit květní stvoly a nevzhledné listy nízko nad zemí. Rostlina velmi rychle znovu obrazí a vytvoří kompaktní bochánek svěžích listů, který vydrží krásný až do podzimu. Tento řez také zamezí nadměrnému samovýsevu, kterým je kontryhel známý. Na jaře pak provádíme pouze očistný řez, kdy odstraníme vše, co přes zimu zaschlo.
Zákazníci se často ptají na možnost pěstování na balkonech a terasách. Ano, kontryhel lze úspěšně pěstovat i v dostatečně velkém květináči. Vzhledem k jeho vzpřímenému růstu a výšce okolo 60 cm vypadá v nádobách velmi elegantně, ať už samostatně, nebo v kombinaci s letničkami. Při nádobovém pěstování dbejte na to, aby substrát nikdy zcela nevyschl, ale zároveň v podmisce nestála voda. Co se týče zimování, ve volné půdě je rostlina plně mrazuvzdorná a přečká i velmi tuhé zimy bez přikrývky. V případě pěstování v nádobě je vhodné ji na zimu přisunout ke zdi domu nebo nádobu izolovat, aby nepromrzla ze všech stran, samotná rostlina však mráz snáší výborně.
