The Fun for Two tulip is a popular and undemanding bulbous plant that will bring soft pastel tones to your spring garden. For successful growth, it requires permeable, rather sandy to loamy soil. The right choice of substrate is key because in heavy and permanently waterlogged soil, the bulbs can suffer from fungal diseases such as gray mold or fusarium wilt, or the mosaic virus. Choose a spot for it in full sun or light partial shade, where its creamy flowers will create a beautiful contrast with grape hyacinths or early-sprouting perennials.
Planting of the bulbs takes place exclusively in autumn, preferably in the months of September, October, and November, before the soil permanently freezes.
- Planting depth: Plant the bulbs at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters.
- Spacing: The ideal distance between individual plants is 10 to 15 centimeters.
- Preparation: Always insert the bulbs into the hole with the wider part down and the tip up. If you cannot plant the bulbs right away, store them in a dark, cool, and dry place. This will prevent premature sprouting and keep the bulbs in perfect condition until the actual planting.
During spring flowering in April and May, the plants require only normal care and moderate watering. The strong stems reaching a height of just under half a meter are very durable, so they do not need any additional support. Because it is an excellent variety for cutting, you can safely take some of the flowers home into a vase. For plants left in the bed, do not forget to remove the seed pods in time after flowering. We classify tulips as short-lived perennials that boast extreme frost resistance.
