Kostival velkokvětý
Symphytum grandiflorum vnese světlo i do těch nejtmavších koutů vaší zahrady. Tato vytrvalá bylina se vyznačuje krémovými, trubkovitými květy, které se objevují už během dubna a jemně kontrastují s tmavě zelenými, chlupatými listy. Je to ideální volba pro výsadbu pod vzrostlé stromy, kde se mnoha jiným rostlinám nedaří kvůli nedostatku světla a konkurenci kořenů. Kostival zde vytvoří souvislý, vitální podrost dorůstající výšky 20 až 40 centimetrů. Kromě estetické funkce plní i důležitou ekologickou roli, protože jeho časné květy poskytují cennou potravu pro probouzející se opylovače. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná a nevyžaduje žádnou speciální péči ani oporu. Mějte však na paměti, že se jedná o druh, který je jedovatý a není určen ke konzumaci, na záhonu však udělá velkou parádu.

Pro úspěšné pěstování kostivalu velkokvětého vyberte stanoviště v polostínu až stínu, kde bude tato vytrvalá bylina prosperovat a každé jaro vás potěší záplavou krémových květů. Sazenice vysazujte do dobře připravené, kypré půdy obohacené o kompost, který zajistí potřebné živiny a pomůže udržet vláhu. Ačkoliv rostlina preferuje hlinitou a humózní půdu, je velmi přizpůsobivá. Při výsadbě dbejte na to, aby byl kořenový bal zcela zakryt zeminou, a po zasazení rostlinu důkladně zalijte. Díky své robustnosti a schopnosti rozrůstat se, je kostival skvělou volbou pro místa, kde se jiným trvalkám nedaří.
Během vegetační sezóny vyžaduje tato trvalka jen minimální údržbu. Zálivka by měla být přiměřená (střední nároky na vláhu 💧💧); půda by neměla zcela vyschnout, ale rostlina nesnáší ani trvalé stání ve vodě. Výhodou kostivalu je jeho fantastická odolnost – netrpí chorobami a škůdci se mu vyhýbají, takže nemusíte používat žádnou chemii. Jedná se o plně mrazuvzdornou rostlinu (zóna 4b), která bez problémů přečká i tuhé zimy bez jakékoliv přikrývky či ochrany. Není třeba ji na zimu stříhat, suché části rostliny se přirozeně rozloží nebo je můžete brzy na jaře vyhrabat pro čistší vzhled záhonu.
Často se ptáte, zda lze tuto rostlinu pěstovat v květináči. Odpověď je ano, kostival v nádobě poroste, ale je třeba mu zajistit stinné místo a pravidelnější přísun vody. V omezeném prostoru květináče se živiny vyčerpají rychleji, proto nezapomeňte na jaře přihnojit univerzálním hnojivem pro trvalky. Ať už na záhoně nebo v nádobě, vždy pamatujte na to, že se jedná o okrasnou rostlinu, která je jedovatá. Není určena ke konzumaci ani k léčebným účelům v domácím prostředí, její krása a užitečnost spočívá v pokrytí půdy a podpoře opylovačů.

Hledáte spolehlivou rostlinu do problematických stinných míst? Kostival Hidcote Blue je vynikající volbou, která promění tmavší partie zahrady v krásně kvetoucí koberec. Původem pochází z vlhčích a stinných lesů, a proto na zahradě nejvíce ocení polostín a humózní, dobře propustnou půdu s běžnou dávkou vláhy. Od nás obdržíte prokořeněnou sazenici v květináči, kterou stačí rovnou zasadit na vybrané trvalé stanoviště. Kostival dorůstá do výšky kolem čtyřiceti centimetrů, nepotřebuje žádnou oporu a je plně mrazuvzdorný až do minus třiceti čtyř stupňů. Kultivar Hidcote Blue si oblíbíte především pro jeho brzké jarní kvetení. Během dubna a května se obalí zvonkovitými kvítky, které mají nádherný světle modrý odstín s lehkým přechodem do bílé barvy. Právě tyto květy působí jako magnet na první jarní opylovače, kterým poskytují velmi cenný zdroj nektaru po dlouhé zimě. Zahrádkáři tuto trvalku rádi využívají v podrostu vyšších dřevin nebo na okrajích keřových výsadeb. Květy se sice nehodí pro řez do vázy a rostlina je pro člověka jedovatá, ale její přínos na zahradě je i tak obrovský. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.

It has a semi-double pure white flower, often with inner twisted petals, and compact, strictly upright growth. The flowers are very durable.
