An unrivaled long flowering period and absolute low maintenance make valerian a plant that every grower will appreciate in their flowerbed. Valerian originates from the sunny Mediterranean, where it naturally colonizes dry and rocky places. In our country, therefore, it will most welcome full sun and well-drained loamy or sandy soil, in which it will easily survive even severe frosts below minus twenty degrees. We will deliver a fully grown seedling straight in a pot, from which a compact, airy bush around fifty centimeters to one meter tall will quickly grow after transplanting. The 'Snowcloud White' variety blooms purely white from spring to the first autumn days, and its fragrant flowers are a literal magnet for beneficial insects. The plant does not require support, pests avoid it, and it easily self-seeds, thereby compensating for its shorter lifespan. Its airy structure makes it an excellent addition to summer bouquets. Flowers harvested in the bud stage will stay fresh in a vase for about a week. Moreover, both flowers and leaves are completely edible, so you can use them to spice up cold summer dishes.

Tato oblíbená středomořská rostlina představuje naprosto dokonalou volbu pro horká a suchá místa vaší zahrady, kde by jiné trvalky rychle uvadaly. Sazenici mavuně vysazujte výhradně na plné slunce do chudé, dobře propustné a ideálně písčité nebo hlinité půdy. Těžké a jílovité půdy zadržující vlhkost pro ni nejsou vůbec vhodné, protože v nich kořenový systém snadno podléhá hnilobě. Pro dosažení nejlepšího vizuálního efektu v záhonu doporučujeme spíše skupinovou výsadbu. Sázejte zhruba 5 až 7 sazenic na metr čtvereční v doporučeném sponu 45 cm. Trvalka rychle vytvoří husté trsy vysoké 50 až 100 cm, které si i v dospělosti zachovávají vzdušný habitus a pevně stojí i bez jakékoliv umělé opory.
Jelikož je mavuň přirozeně plně přizpůsobena nedostatku vláhy, ušetří vám spoustu práce s konví. Jakmile doručenou sazenici po usazení do záhonu dobře zalijete a necháte pevně zakořenit, další umělé zavlažování už po zbytek sezóny většinou vůbec nepotřebuje. Zcela vynechat můžete i jakékoliv přihnojování. Zkušenosti z praxe totiž ukazují, že v chudších podmínkách roste trvalka kompaktněji, tvoří pevnější stonky a především mnohem bohatěji kvete. Pokud nebudujete klasický záhon, lze mavuň velmi úspěšně pěstovat i v prostorném květináči na slunné terase. Abyste udrželi mavuň v té nejlepší možné kondici, velmi se doporučuje průběžně odstraňovat všechny odkvetlé výhony. Jedná se o mimořádně odolný druh, který je v našich podmínkách zcela bez škůdců a chorob. S příchodem zimy proto není nutné zdravé sazenice nijak speciálně přikrývat chvojím ani bohatě mulčovat. Mavuň je vysoce mrazuvzdorná a hravě zvládne i tuhé mrazy klesající k -23 °C. Její bezproblémové přežití v zimních měsících závisí v podstatě pouze na kvalitní propustnosti půdy. Suché zídky, slunné skalky nebo mírné svahy jí zaručí naprosto ideální podmínky, protože tamní terén udrží choulostivý kořenový krček v suchu i během vytrvalých dešťů nebo náhlého tání sněhu.
