Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for naturalistic gardens, and lower species also for boxes and pots. Cultivation
Mavuň je slunomilná trvalka pocházející ze Středomoří, která do vaší zahrady vnese nádech horkého jihu. Sazenici, kterou od nás obdržíte v květináči, stačí bezprostředně po zakoupení vysadit na plné slunce. Nejlépe se jí daří v chudé, vysoce propustné a hlinité nebo písčité půdě. S přehledem zvládne i štěrkovitá či kamenitá místa a výborně se hodí do suchých zídek. Nepotřebuje vůbec žádné hnojivo, dokonce platí, že v příliš výživné půdě má sklony se zbytečně vytahovat a ztrácet svůj přirozeně kompaktní tvar. Při výsadbě do záhonu dodržujte spon zhruba 45 centimetrů, což odpovídá pěti až sedmi rostlinám na jeden metr čtvereční, aby měl tento až jeden metr vysoký vzdušný keřík dostatek prostoru pro růst i dobrou cirkulaci vzduchu.
Tato rostlina výborně zvládá letní sucho a naopak zásadně nesnáší přemokření, které je pro ni rizikové zejména v chladných zimních měsících. Zálivku vyžaduje opravdu pouze bezprostředně po výsadbě, dokud sazenice řádně nezakoření. Jakmile se na novém stanovišti usadí, zalévejte ji jen výjimečně během opravdu extrémních a dlouhotrvajících veder. Jelikož jde o rostlinu zcela bez chorob a bez přirozených škůdců, nečekají vás během sezóny absolutně žádné starosti s postřiky. Mavuň nepotřebuje ani žádnou oporu, její stonky jsou totiž přirozeně dostatečně pevné. Tuto vlastnost jistě oceníte i při řezu do letních kytic, protože ve váze vám čerstvě vykvetlé laty vydrží krásné a svěží i více než sedm dnů.
Mezi oblíbenými trvalkami má mavuň bezkonkurenčně nejdelší dobu kvetení, kvete nepřetržitě od května až do září. Aby však kvetla co nejdéle, doporučujeme odkvetlé laty průběžně odstraňovat. Hned po hlavním odkvětu můžete celou rostlinu hlouběji seříznout. Tímto zpětným řezem podpoříte násadu nových malinových kvítků a zároveň zamezíte jejímu nevyžádanému přesévání. Mrazuvzdornost je vynikající, snese poklesy teplot až do -23 °C, takže běžnou zimu přečká zcela bez problémů. Pokud máte k dispozici pouze terasu, mavuň můžete velmi snadno pěstovat také v nádobách. V takovém případě se držte několika pravidel:
- Zvolte dostatečně velký květináč s odtokovým otvorem.
- Vytvořte bohatou drenážní vrstvu z keramzitu nebo štěrku na dně nádoby.
- Zeminu namíchejte s pískem pro maximální propustnost a ochranu kořenů před uhnitím.

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
