Sléz pižmový je nenáročná rostlina, která vnese do vaší zahrady kouzlo venkova a lehkost. Sazenice, které obdržíte, potřebují k prosperitě především dostatek světla. Vyberte pro ně stanoviště na přímém slunci, případně v mírném polostínu. Půdní podmínky nejsou pro sléz složité – miluje chudou, propustnou zeminu, která nezadržuje vodu. Pokud máte na zahradě písčitou nebo kamenitou půdu, kde se jiným trvalkám nedaří, sléz zde bude jako doma. Vyhněte se naopak těžkým a mokrým jílovitým půdám, které by mohly vést k uhnívání kořenového krčku, zejména v zimním období. Hnojení není nutné, v příliš výživné půdě rostlina ztrácí svůj kompaktní tvar.
Výsadba a prostorové nároky
Jelikož se jedná o vzrůstnější trvalku, která dorůstá výšky 40 až 80 cm, je důležité jí dopřát dostatek prostoru. Při výsadbě dodržujte spon 50 cm. Pokud zakládáte větší skupinu, počítejte se 4 až 6 rostlinami na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí, že rostliny do sebe nebudou vrůstat a vzduch bude moci volně proudit, což je klíčové pro prevenci proti rzi slézové, která se může výjimečně objevit. Sazenici vyjměte z obalu a zasaďte ji stejně hluboko, jako rostla v květináči. Po výsadbě rostlinu zalijte, aby se zemina slehla kolem kořenů. V průběhu sezóny je zálivka nutná jen velmi střídmě (💧💧), rostlina si s vláhou hospodaří velmi efektivně.
Údržba a využití v kuchyni
Velkou výhodou slézu je jeho jedlost a užitečnost. Květy, listy i nezralá semena můžete bez obav využít v kuchyni například do salátů nebo jako jedlou dekoraci dezertů. Z hlediska údržby je nejdůležitějším úkonem zpětný řez po odkvětu. Jakmile rostlina dokončí hlavní vlnu kvetení, seřízněte ji nízko nad zemí nebo odstraňte odkvetlé stonky. Tento krok rostlinu omladí, podpoří růst nových svěžích listů a často vyvolá druhou vlnu kvetení na konci léta. I když se jedná o krátkověkou trvalku, na stanovišti se spolehlivě udrží díky samovýsevu. Nechte na podzim pár květů dozrát v semena, a příští rok se můžete těšit na nové rostlinky.
Možnosti pěstování v truhlíku
Sléz pižmový lze s úspěchem pěstovat i v nádobách, pokud nemáte k dispozici volný záhon. Vzhledem k jeho kořenovému systému a výšce však nedoporučujeme malé balkonové truhlíky, ale spíše větší samostatné květináče o průměru alespoň 30 cm. Je nezbytné zajistit perfektní odtok vody, proto zkontrolujte drenážní otvory a na dno nádoby nasypte vrstvu štěrku. Použijte běžný zahradnický substrát smíchaný s pískem v poměru 2:1, aby byla zemina vzdušná. Rostliny v nádobách nemají možnost sáhnout si kořeny pro vodu do hloubky, proto je během léta pravidelně kontrolujte a zalévejte, jakmile povrch substrátu proschne. Na zimu nádobu raději přisuňte ke stěně domu, ačkoliv je rostlina mrazuvzdorná.
